Applications are invited from experienced, dynamic, motivated and forward-thinking HCPC -registered Biomedical Scientists for the senior BMS role within the Automation Section of the Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology laboratory. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to work alongside the other senior staff in the sections both at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. The role has the requirement for the applicant to have an MSc or equivalent, applications will be accepted from applicants with a significant part of their MSc already completed. The role will include: supervising the Automation section and managing the daily organisation and staffing of the various sub-sections; ensuring the analysers are maintained correctly and undertaking any troubleshooting that is required; dealing with engineering visits and organising the section around planned and unplanned analytical down time; monitoring internal and external quality-control performance and initiating any remedial action required; dealing with stock control and ordering of reagents and materials; the writing and updating of SOBs and staff competency logs. The section also covers the send away service (SAS) which deals with the referral work not tested on site. The role involves overseeing this section: raising purchase orders and receipting invoices; networking with our referral providers; dealing with information requests and problems. Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology is part the Blood Sciences Department within the Central Clinical Services Division. Sections within the Department include Automation, Toxicology, Special Chemistry and Immunology. The PRH Automation Section has recently undergone an equipment refresh with updated COBAS 8000s, including the new e801s, and a tracked RSA. RSCH currently use the COBAS 8000's and C8100 pre-analytics. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals comprises the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and the Sussex Eye Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Trust has Teaching Hospital status and the department is an approved training laboratory and has MHRA accreditation. Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership is the joint pathology service of Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) and Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and operates laboratories in the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. Major investment is on-going within the Trust and, with the building of the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary care centre over the next few years, will reinforce the Trust as a key player in South East England.
