An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our frailty rotation at University Hospital Southampton, rotating between both our acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMU) and Medicine for Older Persons Wards. We are looking for a dynamic and fresh thinking individual who is passionate about delivering outstanding healthcare for the frail and older population. If this is you then we would love to hear from you. ABOUT THE TEAM AMU is a fast paced purpose built 53 bedded unit, with admissions coming from the emergency department and direct GP referrals. AMU is an exciting hub of activity where early assessment and discharge planning can commence. The post holder would also have the opportunity to rotate in to our dedicated Medicine for Older Persons Unit offering specialist services for approximately 150 beds, treating adults over 80 years old with a variety of pathologies including within our Enhanced Dementia Care Unit - a unique specialist ward in our region. The frailty specialists working in these fields are supportive of learning, vibrant and forward thinking, who strive to provide comprehensive care wrapped around each individual patient. We have recently participated in the Acute Frailty Network conference; Eat Drink Move launch and last year were awarded the BMJ Care of the Older Person award for our multidisciplinary approach to improving care for older patients. The AMU and Medicine for Older persons Therapy teams are a valued part of an expansive, robust and close knit MDT, priding itself in delivering patient centred, holistic care. The entire MDT is always striving to be at the forefront of innovation and development and excellent support will be given towards your continued learning, personal and professional development. WHAT YOU'LL DO This post will offer: * The opportunity to work with a diverse and highly complex caseload including multifaceted falls assessments, complex discharge planning, equipment provision and the management of people with cognitive impairments * Experience of building strong inter-professional working relationships across all care providers both internal and external to the hospital * Opportunities to engage in up and coming service development projects, be innovative and influential to enhance the services we offer * Teaching and learning development of others including students from the University of Southampton, University of Winchester and University of Bournemouth. * Endless opportunities to explore career development and CPD activities where you will be encouraged and supported to develop extended skills and advanced practice in frailty WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You will have a broad range of clinical experience in assessing and treating a range of multipathologies, and be able to demonstrate a real passion for the care of older people. The ability to treat your patients with the utmost care, compassion and dignity is imperative, as well as excellent prioritisation and time management skills. This post will include 7 day working and therefore the post holder will be expected to participate in weekend working on a rota basis. The post holder must therefore be a car driver and have business insurance for the purposes of the role.
