Job Description

Full time Fixed term for up to a year - Maternity leave cover 3 days Linwood School in Bournemouth /2 days Community Clinic Dorset East (VTBC) We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, forward thinking, and flexible team player to join our friendly, supportive team of speech and language therapists to work in mainstream schools, community clinics & special schools. If you have a community background of working in clinics and mainstream schools with an added interest and experience of working alongside school staff to support children with a range of complex learning difficulties including Autism Spectrum Disorder then read on! Two days a week will be worked within a Community Team of therapists managing a community caseload. This will include leading and liaising with SLT and SLTA colleagues to ensure case management lists, waiting times and discharges are managed within service standards and processes. The post holder may also be expected to undertake assessments as part of the Multi-Professional Diagnostic process for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). There may also be opportunities to deliver Education Commissioned Care Packages with children who have an EHCP. Three days a week will be working alongside school staff at Linwood School - to support children with complex language and communication difficulties. This directly commissioned speech and language therapy service is provided within a multi-disciplinary, collaborative model of care and educational provision. The post holder will work closely with teachers and assistants, mainly in a consultative role to evaluate and develop pupil's speech, language and communication skills. The post holder will provide management plans for school staff to implement, review the progress of these plans and assess pupils new to the school to identify speech, language and communication needs, working closely with the school's Total Communication Team which includes a full time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. Experience and knowledge of AAC and dysphagia (RCSLT Dysphagia Competency Framework - Level C) is desirable, but not essential. The post holder will work as part of a small team of speech and language therapists working over three campuses of Linwood Special School covering children from nursery age to sixth form. There are superb facilities and it is a vibrant and exciting place in which to work and learn. This is rewarding role is based predominantly at Linwood Campus with pupils aged 3-19 years with a range of speech, language and communication needs. This is a fixed term post to cover maternity leave of up to one year starting in October 2020. Although a full time post, consideration will be made to applicants who would like to work part-time/job share Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of 40 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments.
