Advanced Specialist Cancer Pharmacist

Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ,
Bournemouth, Dorset

Overview

Job Description

This is a clinical role taking the lead for pharmacy on the operational aspects of Cancer treatment. You will be involved with implementing the Clinical Pharmacy Service, working closely with Oncologists, Haematologists and nursing staff to provide excellent patient care to patients. You will be responsible for the clinical pharmaceutical and medicines management services to Cancer Services, working with lead prescribers and the pharmacy team to promote best practice in the pharmaceutical care of cancer patients in line with national and local guidance. You will liaise closely with the other senior pharmacists supporting Cancer services (Aseptic Services and Clinical Trials) as well as the role's counterpart at Poole Hospital. One of the first projects that you will lead on is developing a satellite clinical pharmacy service in the Haematology Oncology Day Unit at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital similar to the service established at Poole Hospital. This provides an excellent opportunity to lead on clinical training for pharmacists and to use non-medical prescribing skills. You will be able to train for prescribing if you do not already have this qualification. This is an exciting time for us following the Dorset Clinical Services Review. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will develop into the major emergency hospital and Poole Hospital will become the major planned hospital for Dorset. The two Trusts are planning for merger in the autumn of 2020 to become the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. So there will be a single pharmacy team and whilst this post will be based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital there will also be some time working at Poole Hospital. The haematology / oncology consultants already work as a single team and in pharmacy we are moving to working as a single service across both sites ahead of merger in the autumn. This role will be integral to the planning for the cross site Pharmacy Cancer Services team and helping deliver the vision for the future of the service. With the planned building works there will be 48 inpatient beds for cancer at RBH and provision of outpatient chemotherapy on both sites. The pharmacy services are well regarded in the Trusts and recognised as a key element to any clinical development. The Pharmacy team is forward thinking; we embrace change and are constantly looking for ways to improve the service. We understand the importance of good team working and have strong links with other professions. The patient is at the centre of all that we do and our strategy is to provide a pharmacy service that has medicines optimisation at its heart. EPMA (Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration) has been implemented at Poole Hospital and will follow soon at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital improving the way that we work. Please search for our Pharmacy video on Youtube to learn more about us; Pharmacy recruitment RBCH January 2020 Why join us? Our staff say; "We have a very friendly, welcoming and supportive workforce that helps each other even when we are up against it", "The job is rewarding. I know my work makes a difference to patient care" and "Feel a sense of community - like everyone is looking out for you". The Health & Wellbeing of staff is high on the Trust's agenda and there is plenty of support. The NHS provides a good pension and annual leave and bank holiday allowance. Dorset is a superb area to live. We have access to beautiful areas such as the New Forest and the Purbecks as well as our miles of golden beaches. Bournemouth has two universities and is a vibrant town with plenty of options for entertainment. Transport links are excellent with Bournemouth airport, ferry terminals at Poole and direct train access to London. You may be eligible for relocation costs should you be required to relocate. This will assist with relocation expenses if you live more than 40 miles from the Trust and are already a resident in the UK. Please ask for further details at interview. Applicants must be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Full-time (37.5 hours per week). This role requires one late finish per week (closing at 5.30pm), weekend shifts 1 in 5 (either Saturday or Sunday) and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year. It is anticipated that the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will merge in 2020 to form East Dorset Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is a condition of employment that all staff being recruited in the period before merger will work across all sites pre and post-merger Proposed Interview Date: Thursday 2nd July 2020 but this may be flexible, contact us to discuss. Interviews can be arranged via Skype or Teams.
