Cellular Pathology at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join their friendly forward thinking team. This role is within a busy and continually developing department with responsibility to oversee & lead the day-to-day running of a section within the histopathology laboratory & preparation for the forthcoming UKAS accreditation visit. ABOUT THE TEAM UHS is one of the largest hospitals in the country. It is a national centre for both teaching and research and also a regional centre for Neurological, Cardiac, Paediatric and Cancer specialities. The laboratories are sited at Southampton General Hospital within purpose-built modern and well-equipped facilities providing comprehensive diagnostic services delivering both routine and specialist testing to Wessex Region patients and a number of external referral sites. Cellular Pathology includes neuropathology, paediatric pathology, immunohistochemistry and also incorporates the departments of Diagnostic Cytology, Biomedical Imaging, Electron Microscopy and provision of Mortuary services to the hospital, City Council and local Coroners. The department is integrated with the University of Southampton's department of pathology which has a major role in medical student education and has active research programs in both applied and basic experimental pathology. Approximately 45,000 Histology specimens and 3,000 diagnostic Cytology samples are currently received and processed annually. There is a newly furbished suite to support the delivery of the Mohs service within the Trust. This post is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual to contribute to a rapidly developing service. The post also presents opportunity for personal development, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is actively supported. The laboratory is IBMS approved for training and is UKAS accredited. WHAT YOU'LL DO * You will be responsible for overseeing & leading a specialist section within the department. * In conjunction with the cellular pathology quality lead, you will ensure that the specialist section continues to meet all quality standards required & all relevant documentation in preparation for UKAS accreditation visits is available & continues to be kept up to date * You will oversee the UKNEQAS CPT EQA submissions for the section, highlighting & responding to any non-conformities raised.
