Simpsons Malt Limited
,
Norwich, Norfolk
Production Manager
Overview
Job Description
Simpsons Malt are the UK's leading, independent malting Company, with 150+ years of successful supply to brewers and distillers with a customer range from the smallest craft & micro brewers to multi-nationals in the UK and around the world. Our Tivetshall Maltings site, between Norwich and Diss, has and continues to receive significant investment. Its USP is in the production of a range of quality speciality and base malts for the brewing industry-with an increasing world wide export business . This is a challenging production site, with 7X24 batch processing and a wide range of plant and equipment that includes older(tried and tested) driers, dressers, elevators & conveyors as well as new (state of the art) PLC controlled roasting ovens, germinating vessels and a palletiser/bagging line. In line with this investment program and our increasing focus on continuous improvement activity, we also need to grow our site management team. This role will potentially join a team of Production Managers who work on a Monday to Friday basis, but have 7X24, 360 degree responsibility for a part of the production process/site. You will ensure a quality product, motivate and maintain the health and safety of the operators in your area and actively seek to improve processes, equipment and performance against a range of metrics. While days based, there will be a requirement to take out of hours calls and there is a weekend rota with the rest of the management team to ensure site staff can gain advice and quality judgements be made. While people management will always be important to a production manager role, this is a process driven site with a requirement to gain/grow knowledge around the science of malting in order to deliver the value added that our customers expect. There is flexibility as to whether any new manager starts work within a batch processing, or line based area and so applicants should stress their preference/experience in any cover letter. The site is safety and quality driven and so the way work is done will take precedence over just producing the numbers to satisfy customer demands. Qualifications and Skills It is likely that the successful candidate will have leadership experience within a manufacturing operation. A malting background/experience could be advantageous with such a technical process, but this role will be very much about showing that you are willing to take ownership and drive forward, taking your team with you in a structured way to achieve improved performance. Any knowledge around lean manufacturing tools would be useful. Communication skills will be important for the successful candidate along with a continuous improvement mentality-you will be described by colleagues as a problem solver, dedicated, a good team member , focused and helpful . Benefits The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary related to their experience and qualifications that also includes a Company Bonus and market leading pension, health insurance and life insurance benefits and holiday increasing with service up to 34 days inclusive of Bank Holidays.
