Job Description

Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology is part the Blood Sciences Department within the Central Clinical Services Division. Sections within the Department include Automation, Toxicology, Special Chemistry and Immunology. The busy Automation Section has Roche Diagnostics COBAS 8000 platforms; the specialist area of the laboratory is well equipped, instrumentation includes two LC/MS/MS systems, GC, ELISA workstations, FTIR, Nephelomter and a flame/graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUHT) comprises the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Trust has Teaching Hospital status and the department is an approved training laboratory with peer review body accreditation. The Pathology department at BSUHT has combined services with the department at Surrey & Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust forming a joint venture called Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership. Major investment is ongoing within the Trust and with the proposed building of the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary care centre in the next few years which will reinforce the Trust a key player in South East England. We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking HCPC Registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work within the Clinical Biochemistry & Immunology department, primarily managing departmental quality but also supporting the Special Chemistry laboratory. It is an essential requirement that you have either completed a Specialist Portfolio in Biochemistry, or have successfully completed its predecessor, the CPSM/HPC logbook and oral examination. You will have several years post registration experience and a specialist up to date knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry. You will be passionate about driving the departments' quality management system and ensure the laboratory meets peer review standards.
