Job Description

As a senior API designer you will be part of a fast-paced agile and API minded team. You will lead and implement business requirements. Thanks to your strong engineering background you will create best in class APIs by modelling best practices and patterns for modern financial industry APIs. You will also contribute to the documentation, tutorials and sample libraries for the developer community. You will work with the developer community to overcome challenges they may have. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across a global multi-disciplined network of stakeholders (both internal and external) and organisations. Not only will you be working closely with developers, architects, product managers and CTOs. You will be also be collaborating with business and technical leads from global banks, corporates, fintechs and technology providers. Some of your typical responsibilities will also include: + Maintain strong relationship with the community, ensure continued alignment with external customers and internal teams + Contribute to the API strategy, development life cycle, governance and standards + Build empathy and be an advocate for our customers through participation and facilitation of design activities. + Communicate both low-level technical and high-level strategic issues to clients, management, internal teams and the wider API community via presentations, whitepapers, analyses and workshops. + Provide support and technical advisory to SWIFT customers through workshops, project assignments and design sessions. + Enable the region and customer support groups understand new product initiatives + Evangelise to prospects by helping them to understand the SWIFT API programme, its benefits and value proposition but also the technologies involved + Participate to the architecture and design of new product to ensure feedback from customers and standards are implemented + Confident and clear communicator + Promote API design standards and best practices through the company by providing trainings and workshops + Works simultaneously and closely with several development teams providing consultancy on API design ensuring the implementation of our standards We are looking for someone with following commitments and qualifications: + Can also demonstrate experience in software engineering background and design methods + Proven experience in a technical role that has some involvement with designing and implementing Restful APIs + Experience designing APIs using API description tools such as Swagger, RAML, API Blueprint, etc. + Experience in designing APIs using OAS 2.0/3.0, Blueprint and RAML definition standards + Knowledge of ISO 20022 standards is a big plus + Skilled communicator who is just as comfortable having technical discussion as well as formulating and presenting business concepts with customers and internal teams. + Proven experience in formulating business and technical requirements. + 5 years in a similar job with similar projects and deliverables. + A strong working knowledge on APIs and industry best practices + Financial market knowledge is a big plus + Experience in a consultancy role designing customer focused APIs is a plus + Proven experience in working with products that evolve based on customer input and data driven requirements + Willing to travel at most 30% of your time At SWIFT, we are enhancing our API platform and partnering with the financial community to drive digital innovation and transformation.
