Overview

An excellent opportunity in central Scotland for a Head of Finance with a construction background and a strong business partnering approach. This is a maternity leave for 15 months to start in April/May 2020. You will lead the finance function within the Business Unit, having full ownership for this, and to provide commercial and financial support to the Managing Director and Commercial Director, ensuring financial control is maintained at all times. Key Accountabilities Ensure effective financial control systems are in place Ensure all financial information and procedures comply with Group accounting standards and policy, with IFRS15 being particularly relevant currently Ensure all reporting and budget/forecasts are completed in an accurate and timely fashion The Role Provide support to the MD and CD of the business unit ensuring completion of the BU reports on financial manners in an accurate, complete and timely manner Responsibility for overall financial control within the BU, ensuring no unknown exposures, and primarily ensuring no exposures within the control of finance are created e.g. overheads, supervision, balance sheet accounts Timely and accurate analysis of monthly financial reports and financial trends to enable the BU management team in fulfilling their responsibilities Responsibility for ensuring accurate monthly forecasts are prepared, with full risks and opportunities versus these known Manage budgets process, including preparation of presentation and attendance at budget review meetings where this is presented jointly by MD, CD and HoF Cash management including weekly reporting, maximising cash where possible, and ensuring forecasts are accurate. Manage project bank accounts, including discussions on set up from tender, through to being in operation, trying to maximise our BU cash position throughout this Prepare finance papers for monthly management meetings, presented in a dashboard and easy to present format. Attend said meetings, reporting and advising on commercial and financial matters Produce miscellaneous commercial and financial reports as required, with responsibility to highlight any concerns to the CD/MD as appropriate Ensure the implementation and delivery of strategic development initiatives Management of Half Year and Full Year audit process Manage the business unit Limits of Authority Credit checks on customers for new projects, seeking to minimise exposure as appropriate (e.g. private sector) through negotiations on upfront payment, escrows etc Credit checks on subcontractors for new and ongoing projects, as well as subcontractors being “onboarded”, and providing advice in respect of how to minimise exposure Manage Finance team providing support, guidance and leadership to the team to ensure wider team objectives are met The Person Qualified accountant with experience within the construction industry Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop ideas and present them concisely Proactive and tenacious individual who takes full responsibility and sees things through to a close Resilient, motivated and positive
