Product Cost Engineer Cheltenham 12 Months Up to £40 p/hour An exciting opportunity has arisen in our successful Product Engineering team. You will be working closely with several disciplines right across the business. The key element of this role is all about cost management and driving our recurring costs and non-recurring costs down This could be: Influencing supply chain Design definition based on DFM techniques and developing new production technologies. It would suit someone with a high degree of drive and real ambition to make positive change. You will be a proactive change agent, open to creative new ideas, adopting and integrating them with a can-do attitude. Essential Responsibilities Working as part of our Product Engineering function, you will facilitate (DFM) Design for manufacture Engineering and Design to Cost (DTC) activities, assessing new and established Electro/Mechanical solutions ensuring products are defined with optimum cost in mind. Specifically, you will be completing a holistic system wide evaluation, where you will be reviewing engineering designs, challenging electrical architecture and component selections from a recurring cost perspective. This is expected to also include reviewing material specifications and any associated tolerances to bolster full economic volume production, without compromising requirements. Using sound engineering principles, you will be supporting a range of projects, at a variety of maturity. From early concept where you will influence design & manufacturing methodology and supplier strategies for new product platforms as well as driving value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) activities in existing manufacturing processes for more established products. This role will provide an active contribution to our manufacturing partners to ensure effective production processes are effectively implemented, bringing both capability and consistency within our manufacturing cells, including our global supply base. This is an engineering role that will be required to have a high degree of collaboration with manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain disciplines, including global Vendors and will be expected to build relationships and achieve demanding reoccurring cost targets. You will be very fiscally aware and numeric, understanding the commercial impact of the business and be expert at constructing strong business cases, executing at pace. Requirements Qualifications/Requirements Demonstrable experience of working with global or outsource suppliers in an engineering new product engineering environment. With exposure in the following approaches: Experience in estimated product costs as they evolve in the NPD process. Experience using aPriori's real-time product cost information or alternative product costing software. Awareness of Mechanical Design and product development techniques, preferably using Siemens NX packages. Comfortable using PLM solution and able to operate in safety critical environment. Strong understanding Electro/Mechanical packaging of complex systems. Design for manufacture and cost reductions opportunities. Supporting supplier selection and development, with product cost management. Value Engineering and Value analysis understanding. Please submit your CV in the first instance.
