Overview

The Organisation The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) is an independent and not-for-profit membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports university-business collaboration across the UK. The National Centre's Council, drawn from senior business leaders and Vice-Chancellors from their member organisations, review and make recommendations on the UK’s long-term skills, graduate talent and innovation needs, deliver collaborative thinking on the big issues of sustainable growth and industrial strategy, and strengthen understanding with government and policy-makers through high level networking. The NCUB organisation is a rapidly evolving Not for Profit organisation employing around 18 people including a CEO, an operational team, a policy and engagement team and a 'Konfer’ team. The organisation receives around a third of its income from membership subscriptions, which sits alongside public funding and grant funding. The NCUB has continued to progressively evolve its services in support of the National, Regional, Economic and Business agendas and has brought in a Head of Policy and Engagement to help the CEO spearhead the direction and vision of the organisation. The Role In support of the strategic and tactical plan NCUB are keen to add a Partnership Engagement Manager to their team. This individual will act as the organisational lead for NCUB membership and engagement, working in partnership with the Head of Policy and Engagement to develop and implement a refreshed member recruitment strategy and a member engagement strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing the process of prospecting and recruiting new members, as well as identifying the relevant activities and interests of current members. They will be the first point of contact for prospective and existing university and business members, handling formal communications and collaborating with colleagues across the organisation to present a positive image of NCUB across the membership. Key Responsibilities Lead our approach to member engagement, recruitment and retention, placing members more firmly at the heart of our organisation. Create and implement an effective member recruitment strategy with a focus on identifying and engaging new members from the private sector with a strong interest in university-business collaboration. Create and implement an effective member engagement and communication strategy to inform members of developments and successes, involve members in our policy work and events, and seek member insights and feedback. Develop and execute processes to analyse, log and monitor member engagement, evaluate member satisfaction and enhance member retention. Understand and articulate the needs of different member institutions, sectors and regions, working with the wider team to identify new opportunities to engage groups of members in more targeted ways. Articulate and review NCUB’s value proposition to members and lead on making recommendations on how to enhance our offer. Build strong relationships within the university and business sectors to raise the profile of NCUB. Successfully communicate NCUBs value to senior stakeholders and decision makers. Respond to members’ queries and manage the annual membership invoicing process. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role. Person Specification A Graduate holding a 2.1 or 1st class degree you will have 5-10 years experience in a collaborative, idea generating office environment. With a "hands-on" delivery style you will naturally look to enhance systems, processes and communication in the support of a positive, changing environment that looks to deliver outstanding services to universities and businesses alike. Achievements in your career to date will include: An influential advocate of change with a track record of instigating, leading and delivering significant change projects to place members at the heart of an organisation. A proven track record of developing and implementing strategies that lead to targeted and sustained growth in membership. A curiosity and interest in using the external environment to inform membership strategies and identify potential members on the basis of shared interest and values. Demonstrable ability to identify new opportunities for enhanced and valuable member engagement and improved member communications. Confident managing relationships and dealing with members and external stakeholders at all levels and across multiple sectors, including from government, industry and universities. Experience in producing and communicating membership offers with high-quality written and oral communication skills. Excellent project management and time management skills, extremely organised with proven ability to coordinate multiple areas of work simultaneously. Experience of maintaining a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and of evolving good practice to keep up to date with the requirements for data protection. Experience of collating information about members to provide data driven insights. Ability to be creative and bring new ideas to the role and to be focussed on delivering ambitious business objectives. Ability to combine an understanding of the big picture and a focus on getting the detail right. Ability to work well in a small team and willingness to 'pitch in’.
