Do you want to help build and be a part of a new and exciting service? We are offering a one-year SECONDMENT or FIXED-TERM contract with the Community Perinatal Mental Health Team. This is to cover a maternity post. The Perinatal Service is continuing to grow and develop. We hope to have additional resources including Nursery Nurse posts to offer in the future. You could be part of this exciting opportunity!! One in five women experience post or ante-natal depression, anxiety or in some cases psychosis during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth. We will provide specialist care for women and their babies with moderate to severe mental illness such as bipolar disorder, severe depression or psychosis during the late stages of pregnancy or in the first 12 months after birth. By providing specialist therapeutic care and opportunities parents are able to build a secure bond with their babies while also receiving treatment for their mental health. The role of the Nursery Nurse within the team will be to provide parents with opportunities to positively interact and connect with their babies. Activities and support will take place where families' are comfortable, whether in their home, at children centres, play groups or other community locations. These opportunities will empower parents to support and understand the development of their baby and meet their holistic needs. As a Nursery Nurse you will need to be able to bring a flexible approach to working with mothers and their babies while offering broad range of appropriate activities. These activities will focus on supporting the parents to recognise and understand their babies' needs and cues. A good understanding of infant development and care will be essential to this role and experience or interest in working in adult mental health. Your previous experience and knowledge as a Nursery Nurse can help these families to grow and develop together. At times there may be a need for the nursery nurse to support the mother with her mental health needs. Frequent and in depth clinical supervision will be provided to support this. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high level of care for both the mothers and their babies. Therefore good inter personal, communication and organisational skills are required. The community team at times also will offer support to the new 8 bedded Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) which is opening in Norfolk based at Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich. The unit admits mothers together with their babies, preventing separation, while the mother receives inpatient mental health treatment.
