Country: United Kingdom Location: Southampton Function: Scientific Research & Development Level: Experienced Professional Appointment Type: Permanent Job Purpose To lead certain device product development activities within several Tobacco Heating Product (THP) projects towards the development and delivery of high potential inhalable non-combustible tobacco products. This is done through translation of the commercial needs for the product into an effective technological brief that is then delivered with the support of internal and external resources. The role is responsible for the delivery of an assigned portfolio of projects and activities within the NGP product development plan which requires the coordination of internal and external stakeholders in alignment with the Principal Development Managers (THP) and Manufacturing Managers (Supply Chain) to support delivery of the commercial vision for the product are key aspects of this role. To integrate the THP R&D, Product Stewardship Commercial, Product, Quality and Supply Chain requirements for device and product development and then support those functions during commercialization. Through the application of sound technical and scientific principals this role ensures that these products are delivered in line with best practices for new product development and are supported by robust science. Principal Accountabilities Leadership Manage specific device development activities both within R&D, across the Supply Chain and Commercial functions and with nominated third party suppliers Promote relevant technical guidance to GR&D and the THP LT on tobacco heating product and technology developments to ensure that they have the appropriate level of support within the function Promote and integrate ways of working within the development team Work closely with the Product Development Manager and other core team members to implement project deliveries Operational Lead the development activities for the assigned responsibilities within the team Support the Product Development Manager, where required Lead the engagement with third party test houses to ensure ultimate compliance of devices against required safety standards Support solid Intellectual Property (IP) to best protect the product With the support of Product/Quality support the implementation of a quality based approach to device design and development in support of the requirements for NPI With the support of THP Consumable Product Developers, Sensory team and SP&I lead activities to validate the product in terms of device design and system level performance using internal and external means (e.g. support consumer research panels) Ensure that activities supporting the Product Science Plan have been implemented to support the delivery of product into market Management Ensure accurate budget management and tracking for development activities within the assigned responsibilities/projects in the team Ensure on time and in full delivery of device specifications for new product and/or product modifications Escalate risks and issues in a timely and appropriate manner Key Success Factors: Proactive and willing to go outside comfort zone to further enhance technical and soft skills Delivery of Development priorities against the plan within assigned responsibility Activity/project budget accuracy within assigned responsibility Successful career and talent development for direct reports Technical understanding and solution implementation to ensure quality, cost and on time delivery Relationships: NGP Management team Consumer Product Managers Global Procurement, IP, SP&I and LEX Global, Regional & Local NPI teams R&D Services Team NGP Supply Chain Team NGP & Ops Quality teams 3rd Party suppliers of device design, materials and services Skills and Experience Degree or equivalent in a science or engineering subject.
