Job Description
Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Endocrinology: maternity cover (12 months) Band 6/ 7 (dependent on experience) An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric nurse to join our established multi-disciplinary team in caring for children and young people with specialist Endocrine needs, based at The Royal London Hospital. The position would work closely with a second Clinical Nurse Specialist, and is a 12 month limited tenure for maternity cover. The team is recognised both nationally and internationally in caring for children and young people with conditions including: growth and pubertal disorders, adrenal disease including Cushing's syndrome, hypo- and hyperthyroidism, along with inherited endocrine tumour syndromes. The Paediatric Clinic Nurse Specialist will be an experienced, knowledgeable and educated member of the team who is able to work with a certain level of autonomy, making decisions to treat health needs. Advanced level practice encompasses aspects of education, research and management but is firmly centred on clinical work and direct care of children and young people with specialist Endocrine needs. A previous background in Endocrinology is not essential as on the job training with our specialist team is abundant. The successful applicant will receive the support and opportunity to develop their clinical expertise and knowledge regarding all aspects of the service through formal and informal training and development. In addition development can be supported through attendance to national educational meetings and conferences. Applicants are required to hold a current 1st level registration with the NMC as a Children's Nurse, and have at least 5 years post registration nursing experience. Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills should be evident and demonstrated. The successful applicant will be working within a multidisciplinary team providing specialist nursing support, education, healthcare liaison, and a high quality of care to children and young people with specialist Endocrine needs. Transition is also an important part of our department's ethos as a number of conditions require life-long support.
