Online applications are invited for the post of Congenital Cardiac Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust. This is a full time substantive post. The successful applicant will have completed full subspecialty training in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. ABOUT THE TEAM The post holder will join a team of 3 congenital cardiac surgeons, 8 paediatric cardiologists and 5 ACHD cardiologists. This post forms part of our Trusts plans for future succession planning. The Congenital Cardiac Unit in Southampton is the level 1 lead centre for the Oxford-Southampton Congenital Cardiac ODN. All congenital cardiac services are offered in Southampton including all Congenital Cardiac Surgery for children and adults, cardiac ECMO, fetal cardiology, congenital cardiac CMR/CT, interventional cardiac catheterisation, and all ACHD services. In addition, the Congenital Cardiac Surgery service forms part of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery giving access to the full range of adult-acquired cardiac and thoracic surgical and interventional procedures. The department provides the full range of paediatric, neonatal and ACHD congenital surgical services to a region with a population of approximately 5 million. All other major paediatric specialities are provided within the Southampton Children's Hospital including paediatric intensive care, respiratory, ENT, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, neonatology, neurology, orthopaedics, paediatric and neonatal surgery, oncology and radiology. Our hospital also has the full range of adult services on the same site. UHSFT offers ample opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and excellent facilities for research and clinical care. WHAT YOU'LL DO Undertake the full range of general, specialist, elective and emergency duties of a consultant congenital cardiac surgeon. Perform congenital cardiac surgical lists, additional supportive surgical procedures (e.g. ECMO) Perform congenital surgical on-call duties as required. Support all cardiac surgical care required on PICU and CICU. Support the development of excellent congenital cardiac services across the Oxford-Southampton Network Perform duties in line with agreed job plan and support the education of junior staff. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are looking to appoint a well-motivated Congenital Cardiac Surgeon who is fully trained and experienced in congenital cardiac surgery. The department has a strong ethos in education and research and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this activity. Applicants need to be fully accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT / equivalent on the date of the AAC may also apply.
