Online applications are invited for 2 consultants in clinical genetics at the Wessex Clinical Genetics Service based in Southampton. Both posts are permanent positions. ABOUT THE TEAM University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist services to more than 3.7 million people in central southern England and the Channel Islands. The Trust is a major centre for teaching and research Genomic Medicine is one of the Trusts key priorities. The Wessex Clinical Genetics Service is a Regional Service based at the Princess Anne Hospital, currently integrated with the Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory in Salisbury and Wessex, Oxford and West Midlands Genomic Laboratory Hub in Birmingham. It will form part of the Central and South NHS Genomic Medicine Service Alliance. The service covers the whole of the Wessex region including working at remote sites and travelling to other provider sites. There are excellent links between the Clinical Genetics Service and Southampton University with several Clinical Academics in Genetics holding key university posts . WHAT YOU'LL DO The Wessex Genetics service offers an exciting opportunity to take up a substantive post within this fast developing service. We are looking for two full-time (8 DCC; 2 SPA) Consultants to join an expanding, dynamic Clinical Genetics team. The job plan will include regional clinics within the Wessex area as well as carrying out in-patient consultations as required. One post will have general and paediatric sessions; the second post will comprise cancer genetics as well as general and paediatric work. The post-holder is expected to cover a population of about 600,000 people and the geographical area to be covered is subject to change to accommodate the needs of the service. Both posts are permanent Consultant Geneticist positions. They are replacement posts and the successful applicant will join a team of 10 consultant geneticists (8 WTE) and 11 genetic counsellors. We would be very pleased to receive enquiries from candidates with particular special interests and to discuss how these could be developed to complement the interests of the existing team. In addition to cancer genetics, current specialty interests include cardiac, eye, renal and endocrine genetics and metabolic bone disorders, neurogenetics and prenatal genetics. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR The service offers excellent development opportunities in a regional specialist service with close access to teaching, academic and research opportunities. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion onto the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK must have evidence of Higher Speciality Training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Clinical Genetics, or the expected date of award of their CCT falls no more than 6 months after the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
