Job Description

Barts Health NHS Trust Principal Clinical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry Band 8B (60,058 - 68,891 per annum inclusive of inner London Allowance) Barts Health NHS Trust is one of Britain's leading healthcare providers and the largest Trust in the NHS. It was created on 1 April 2012 by bringing together Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The Trust has a turnover of some 1.1 billion and 15,000 employees. The department of clinical biochemistry operates a hub (Royal London) and spoke (Barts, Whipps Cross and Newham) model, processing in excess of 14 million routine chemistry and immunoassay tests and 135,000 specialist tests including vitamin and trace element analysis, toxicology, specialist endocrinology and haematological oncology investigations. The specialist sections include LC-MS/MS, HPLC, atomic absorption and proteins. We also provide clinical and technical POCT support across the trust. In 2017 we moved to a single LIMS across all sites and by the end of 2019 will have completed the modernisation of our Roche automated analysers. We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious clinical scientist to join us in further developing the service. You must be state registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry), be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination, or equivalent (or hold Part 1 with intention to complete within a year of taking up appointment). A track record of research and development is essential; a PhD and experience in one of our specialist areas is desirable. You will be based at the Royal London hub with occasional travel to the spoke sites as required.
