ABOUT THE TEAM University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the eighth largest Foundation Trust by income in the UK. It is the tertiary referral and teaching centre for a large area of the south of England and the Channel Islands and caters for most surgical sub specialties. The Trust has over 1100 beds for inpatient services; it has numerous outpatient clinics and diagnostic facilities. It has over 40 operating theatres and four intensive care units and currently employs 127 Consultant Anaesthetist or Intensivist staff. It provides every type of tertiary centre care, with the exception of organ transplantation. University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is a highly progressive Trust which offers a full range of tertiary services in the neuro-sciences. It became a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) in April 2012 and this impacts the workload on Neuro ICU. In 2020 the Trust expects to open a major operating theatre and General ICU extension, which will allow and require the expansion of ICU services generally. The extension will also include an MRI facilitated operating theatre, which will keep the Trust at the forefront of neuro-surgical expertise in the country. The Neuro ICU provides critical care support for the Wessex Neurological Centre, looking after patients with both neurological and neurosurgical illness. The Trust already has a Mechanical Thrombectomy service and is looking to develop this further in the coming years. The Department of Critical Care, Theatres and Anaesthetics is a large department within the Trust, and covers a very wide range of work. We are concerned for the well being of our Consultants and attention is paid to work life balance in the detailed construction of job plans. We are passionate about patient care and believe that is best achieved by well supported staff. WHAT YOU'LL DO This post is to support the caseload of Neuro-Intensive Care. The job plan will predominantly involve Consultant delivered seven day care on the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. We are open to suitably qualified and experienced individuals with a passion for Neuro Intensive Care, which could be combined (as a secondary interest) with a range of other specialities - such as Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service or Acute Medicine. These posts are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service determined by the UHS NHS FT Board WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Full GMC registration is required for this post. CCT in an appropriate speciality :- The Neuro Intensive Care element of the role may be combined with Anaesthetics (in which case FRCA or equivalent) . If single speciality ICM then FFICM would be required. If other speciality then equivalent CCT.
