The design and marketing communication teams effectively increase awareness of our brand, piquing peoples' interest in our journalism and encourage increased levels of engagement with our content such that a subscription toThe Economistrepresents good value for money. We have a new opportunity for a midweight Designer to join us as the marketing business expands and continues to grow it's essential in-house design and copywriting capabilities, which external agencies provided previously. As Designer, you will work alongside a marketing copywriter and other marketing executives and colleagues within the editorial design team. Accountabilities How will you contribute? + Ensure that the marketing collateral we produce to communicate with a range of audiences (cold prospects, registered users, new subscribers and renewing subscribers) is compelling, on-brand and achieves our goals + Work with the same level of excellence as our journalism and editorial design + Work closely with the editorial design team, you will be hands-on and tasked with utilizing the organisation's existing (and consistently evolving) design language, flexing and extending it across a full range of print and digital platforms for marketing purposes -- from traditional long-form direct mail to banner ads and short-form advertising on social media, where space is at a premium and impact needs to be immediate + As a global role it is important that regional nuances are recognised and the design of marketing communications is flexed, where appropriate + You will be strategic (creating a bank of visual assets that will sit within our internal design system and can be reused for multiple purposes by a range of marketers) and the tactical (reacting at speed to global events that require an immediate and specific marketing response) + You will work with a talented and cross-discipline group of people that spans marketing, product and editorial + Deliver compelling and comprehensive design across our marketing communications + Clearly communicate your design rationale with confidence and present your work to your peers and stakeholders + Gather and agree requirements, helping to develop and plan design briefs for each project + Keep up-to-date on innovations in the design world to keep your output fresh and relevant Experience, skills and professional attributes The ideal skills for this role include: + Proven experience in Graphic Design with a design degree or equivalent qualification + Solid experience designing for web and digital, with a strong portfolio and evidence of user-centred, creative thinking + A keen attention to detail, strong typography skills and familiarity with design systems is ideal + Experience with Sketch, Adobe Creative suite or equivalent software + Robust typographic and information design abilities + A user-centred approach to design + Experience working across print and digital platforms and multiple screen sizes + Experience of working to tight deadlines + Capabilities in responsive design, across desktop, mobile and tablet + A self-motivated team player with the ability to perform well under pressure + Previous experience or an interest in working with editorial along with an interest in global politics and current affairs Job LocationsUnited Kingdom-London ID2020-6512 FunctionDesigner
