Peer Support Group Volunteer
Overview
Job Description
What's involved? We are looking for a volunteer to support our peer support group for carers of people living with dementia. Run by a facilitator, the group offers a chance to ask questions, get information and share experiences. Your involvement will enable people to meet others who understand some of what they are going through, in a supportive and relaxed environment. You will support the group coordinator by helping to set out the room, welcoming and talking to carers, supporting them to participate in the discussion and helping to clear away after the session. The group takes place on the third Tuesday of each month, between 10.30am and 12 noon. It's held at Risinghurst Community Centre, Kiln Lane, Risninghurst, OX3 8HA. Volunteers come along early and remain for a little while afterwards to help set up and clear away so in total about 2.5 hours volunteering time is required each month. This role will suit you if you... * Enjoy meeting new people, demonstrating empathy and compassion * Have good verbal communication skills especially face to face * Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can show this in practice * Are prepared to complete any necessary initial and ongoing learning, and attend future support meetings. The impact you'll make... You will provide support to the group coordinator to enable carers of people living with dementia to engage with other people in a welcoming and non-judgemental environment. What you need to know: We need to ensure that people living with dementia who benefit from our services are safe. In order for us to do this we interview, check and train our volunteers in on-going roles. If you have accessibility needs we'll make reasonable adjustments to enable you to volunteer. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We will make you feel welcome, included and respected because together we are united . How to apply: If you have any questions about the role or would like to apply, please contact Jane Penton, jane.penton@alzheimers.org.uk or 07540 921 221. You can also get in touch with our Volunteering Support Team on 0300 222 5706 or at volunteeringsupport@alzheimers.org.uk. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions or feedback.
