Job Description

A Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Professor Andrew MacDonald at the University of Manchester's Collaborative Centre for Inflammation Research (MCCIR), to study the impact of dendritic cells on regulatory T cell induction and stability during asthma. The position will build upon an ongoing collaborative project between Prof. MacDonald's laboratory and GlaxoSmithKline, investigating how asthma influences activation of, and dialogue between, pulmonary dendritic cells and regulatory T cells, using patient samples and a combination of ex vivo and in vitro experimental approaches. Applicants should have a BSc (hons) in Biological Sciences (preferably Immunology) and a PhD in Immunology, with extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge of cellular immunology and pulmonary inflammation. They should have extensive expertise in multi-parameter flow cytometry and working with human samples, as well as excellent technical skills and experience in a wide range of cellular and molecular techniques including leukocyte isolation from tissue samples, tissue culture, PCR and ELISA, and a current Home Office license. Facilities for animal research are first rate and are validated by all the appropriate Home Office licences. However, if you have any medical, social or ethical reasons for avoiding work on experimental animals, then do not apply for this post.
