Job Description

This is great opportunity for two post-doctoral research associates (PDRAs) to join a well-known research team that was established to investigate the intelligent use of multi-energy systems to develop a more sustainable energy system with the flexibility to cope with increasing uncertainty associated with intermittent renewable energy sources and extreme weather events. The successful candidates will work in the research project titled "Advanced Tools Towards cost-efficient decarbonisation of future reliable nergy SysTems" (ATTEST), which is funded by the European Commission through its Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme ( The project provides an excellent opportunity to develop, alongside a wide range of European experts from industry and academia, new approaches to plan and operate the power system (i.e., both transmission and distribution networks), also considering integration of flexibility from multi-energy systems, and novel mechanisms to facilitate collaboration between distribution and transmission network operators. You will mainly work in Work Package 3 "Optimal design and planning tools for transmission and distribution systems", which aims to develop new electricity distribution and transmission network investment planning. Accordingly, a good understanding of power system analysis and investment planning under uncertainty are critical for these PDRA positions. The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting women's careers in STEMM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) in higher education.
