Research Associate on the LHCb Experiment
Overview
Job Description
The Particle Physics group at the University of Manchester has a vacancy for a Research Associate working on the LHCb experiment at the LHC at CERN. The work is part of an STFC funded research activity within the University of Manchester LHCb group. You will be expected to work primarily on physics analysis at the LHCb experiment, and support work on the upgraded LHCb silicon vertex detector (VELO) detector and/or future detector upgrades. In data analysis, the LHCb group currently has particularly strong activities in CP violation and mixing studies in the charm sector as well as searches for lepton flavour violation and the breakdown of lepton universality. Your work could further our involvement in charm CP violation, but we are also open to the introduction of new analysis activity areas. The position requires a PhD or equivalent in particle physics. You will have experience in particle physics data analysis and programming, in particular C++ and Python. The position will be initially for a period of two years. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting women's careers in STEMM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) in higher education. The Department is an Institute of Physics Juno Champion and received an Athena Swan Silver Award and we particularly welcome applications from women for this post. Appointment will always be made on merit. For further information, please visit Happy to talk flexible working.
