Job Description
The Role Young Hackney Apprenticeships: 6 Posts, Level 3 Hackney Council's award-winning apprenticeship programme has been designed to create quality opportunities for Hackney residents and school leavers. All of our apprenticeships last at least 13 months and combine paid work, training, and study towards a recognised qualification in a relevant subject. As an apprentice with us, you will earn at least the London Living Wage, and get a package of support including additional learning and development, and help to progress into a job or further apprenticeship. Over two thirds of our apprentices stay with Hackney Council. We are looking for candidates who have passion and enthusiasm, reliability, good organisation skills, a desire to deliver a high quality service for Hackney residents, the ability to form good working relationships with others and a commitment to undertaking a qualification. Young Hackney are recruiting six apprentices - five Youth Work apprentices and one Play Work apprentice. Young Hackney is the Council's service for all young people aged 6 - 19. We aim to help all of Hackney's young people to enjoy their youth and become independent and successful adults. Young Hackney runs activities for young people across the borough, and offers advice and help support to young people who need it, on subjects like education, employment, housing or health. You will spend 20% of your time working towards your qualification or taking part in training and development activities, with the remaining time spent gaining work-based experience. Youthwork Apprentice - 5 Posts Youth Work Level 3 Qualification, 14 Months Based in various venues across the borough - in youth hubs, community settings, and schools - your work will include planning and delivery of various activities and/or group work. You will be based mainly in one team for your apprenticeship - either the School and Youth Sports team, the Participation and Engagement team, or the Universal team. You will be asked to take part in the activities and demonstrate how informal learning can support young peoples' development. You will learn how to reflect on your work at all times in order to improve your practice, offering ideas to team meetings and feedback sessions. You will demonstrate your listening skills and be able to support young people in decision making processes, and challenge young people when necessary to enhance their knowledge or personal development. About Us Some work will be regularly delivered outdoors, in all weather and on residential trips throughout the UK. You will work at times that suit the young people we work with, so that includes two evening sessions every week (up to 9pm) and occasional weekend work. Playwork Apprentice - 1 Post Play Work Level 3 Qualification, 18 Months You will be based mainly with the play team at Shoreditch Adventure Playground. Our Adventure Playgrounds create an environment where children and young people can test boundaries, grow resilience, enjoy freedom and make sense of the world. You will help create and maintain a safe, creative, and stimulating environment for children's play where every child feels welcome and is considered important. You will contribute to the development and delivery of programmes offered by the playground including after school, weekend and holiday provision in accordance with the Playwork Principles. This is a physically demanding role, with work predominantly outdoors on the adventure playground. You will be expected to deliver a variety of play activities outdoors all year round and in all weather conditions. The hours of work for this role are: School Holidays: Monday to Friday: 9:30am to 5:30pm Winter term time: Tuesday to Friday: 10:45am to 7:15pm, Saturday:9:30am - 5:30pm Summer term time:Tuesday to Friday: 11:15am to 7:45pm, Saturday:9:30am - 5:30pm Eligibility: Please note, an Enhanced DBS check is required for these roles. There is no upper age limit for our apprenticeships , but we encourage applications from 16-24 year olds, particularly for our Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships. For the Play Work apprenticeship, you must be 16 by 1 September 2020. For Youth Work apprenticeships, you must be 18 by 1 September 2020. For all apprenticeships in the UK you must meet both of the following conditions: - You must hold a British or European Economic Area (EEA) passport or have permission from the UK government to live in the UK - Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or an EEA country for at least the last three years Key Accountabilities To be eligible for a Hackney Council Apprenticeship, you must be able to prove that at least one of the following criteria apply to you: - You are a current resident of the London Borough of Hackney - You are a current student at a Hackney
