Overview

At Hargreaves Lansdown, our Linux and UNIX based systems are the backbone of our mission critical client facing infrastructure. Due to the increasing team size we are looking to recruit a UNIX change manager who can help to lead a team of engineers responsible for delivering change. A key part of the role involves delivering change to the business. The team of engineers achieve this using configuration management tools to configure new component and change existing infrastructure and therefore candidates with a technical background in Linux administration/DevOps as well as a proven team leader/manager is essential. The current team is made up of seven engineers with a mix of Junior, normal and Senior UNIX administrators. Key Duties And Responsibilities: Manage the 3rd line UNIX change team, mentoring, staff development, recruitment and appraisals. Regular service reviews with UNIX infrastructure manager to demonstrate team performance. Reporting on key statistics and metrics on a monthly basis. Manage relationships with development, change and marketing through monthly service review meetings. Ensure projects for the team are delivered on time and to requirements. Improve upon existing system designs and automate processes. Work with architecture and project management teams to help design and deliver change to the business in relation to your area. Create and maintain a roadmap for the web area for strategic direction. Responsible for providing the Web components of the client facing journey within HL Coordinating critical issue resolution as required Technical review of changes and puppet code to ensure quality and standards are being upheld. Requirements Essential Skills & Experience: Grade C or above in Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) Educated to AS / A level (or equivalent) Degree educated in an IT related discipline Solid understanding of Linux Administration (Centos or RedHat) Configuration management systems e.g. Puppet ITIL 5-10 years experience as a system administrator working on Linux or UNIX based systems. 5 years experience as a technical team leader/manage Experience of working in a zero downtime environment. Ability to take technical lead on projects with multiple engineers assigned Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise to support complex Unix Systems Excellent communicator (written and verbal) Excellent project management skills Ability to effectively manage the team and their workload Ability to analyse and problem solve Ability to prioritise tickets and projects. Mentoring of team members Desirable Skills & Experience: Red Hat certified Engineer (RHCE) Industry recognised management qualifications Solaris 10/11 Kubernetes/Docker Jenkins Source control (Git/SVN) Experience in a financial services environment Experience in an environment governed by PCI-DSS Hargreaves Lansdown is an inclusive employer that values diversity in its workforce.
