Finance Director | Rapid Growth Luxury b2b Retailer | Old Street The Company : Headquartered in central London, our client is highly regarded within the European luxury business-to-business retail sector. Their turnover has grown from £30-£40 million within the past two years, prompting significant investment in new leadership hires prior to launching their first USA office in Q3 2020. Harmonic Finance are acting as sole, retained agent. Company culture and workplace: Working from their beautiful architect-designed offices, the culture of the business is professional, but defiantly non-corporate. In spite of significant recent growth in headcount the co-founders retain supportive communication with employees at all levels and there is a conscious focus upon providing team members with excellent professional development and career progression opportunities. Unsurprisingly, staff retention is excellent (many employees have remained with the business for over ten years). While in an industry not renowned for its diversity, it's noteworthy that this organisation are market-leading in this regard. The Role: The successful candidate will be the first full time Finance Director and will balance an ability to manage a 'best in class' commercial finance and financial reporting function with the capacity to undertake a vocal leadership role within the broader business. Finance does not sit as 'back office' at this company, and as such the role requires a candidate who is a confident communicator and influencer, with a drive to provide support and leadership on broader operational initiatives where required. Revenue is typically invoiced in the form of projects, so candidates with an aptitude for managing teams with a commercial 'project accounting' outlook will be looked upon favourably. This will be particularly so in instances where their outlook is geared towards establishing close finance business partnering relationships between Sales and Operations. The first six months at least- the role is suitable for a 'player coach' rather than a more hands-off strategy-focussed Finance Director. Duties: Manage, mentor and grow the finance team and ensure excellent teamwork across the function. As a member of the Board, provide strategic financial input into the company strategy. Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the annual audit. Provide (supported where required by professional advisors) Board level guidance on best-in-class domestic and international tax policies and corporate structures. Oversee the timely production of accurate Management Accounts which are ready for distribution at Board level. Ensure the effective partnering of Finance with Sales and Manufacturing to provide ad-hoc FP&A analysis to the Board. Oversee the production of a monthly cashflow forecast. To include variances from budget/forecast and highlight any areas of weakness in cost control. Ensure successful delivery of payroll, pension administration and the production of quarterly commission statements to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Overall control for the finance and ERP system (Netsuite) with responsibility for the maintenance and updating of the system. Stock - oversee the monthly reconciliations for the product stock. Ensure that the VAT and Intrastat returns are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure all financial policies are up to date and that there are appropriate internal controls in place over all accounting and financial transactions across the business. Bank accounts/cashflow - oversee the company bank accounts and manage Treasury and FX policies as appropriate. Refine and develop accounting processes and systems. What we need to see (Essential): At least 2 years' experience at Finance Director or Head of Finance level within a business turning over in excess of £20 million. Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA Strong aptitude for leading finance teams in businesses with a heavy project accounting focus. Superb communication skills (including public presentations) and high level of emotional intelligence. Evidence of strong leadership and management skills of teams of at least 4-5 people. A high integrity, values-based outlook. What we'd like to see (Not Essential): Recent experience of having worked in a product, retail (including ecommerce) or manufacturing business. Functional experience of the optimization of ERP systems (especially Netsuite) post-implementation. Previous experience of leading a finance function within an ecommerce business.
