Job Description

Tower Hamlets Homes is an award winning ALMO (Arm's Length Management Organisation). We are a not-for-profit company set up in 2008 to deliver high quality housing services for residents living in over 21,000 homes in East London, including 9,700 leasehold homes and 11,500 tenanted homes. In addition, there are around 350 Right to Buy Freeholders who pay a service charge. We have travelled a long way in the past few years and have built a strong track record in improving our performance and delivering quality services to our residents and communities. This was a major factor in the recent decision of our sole shareholder (the London Borough of Tower Hamlets) to extend our management agreement by a further eight years from July 2020. Following this decision, we have shaped a new business plan - Create Great - to give us focus over the coming years. To help us deliver our ambitious agenda, we're now looking for our next Director of Finance. In this post, you'll safeguard the financial health of the organisation by ensuring good financial control and providing high quality financial advice to our Board and management. As a member of the Executive Management Team, you'll be key to the delivery of our Purpose and Business Plan, and will role model our Values and Ways of Working behaviours, providing clear direction and effective leadership to drive to creation of a great organisation. This role also carries an important responsibility for overseeing our corporate health and safety framework, ensuring that the appropriate safeguards are put into place to protect the health and safety of our workers, contractors and members of the public. Additionally this role acts as our Company Secretary, carrying overall responsibilities for ensuring robust governance arrangements are put into place and maintained. To be successful as our Director of Finance, you'll need to be a fully qualified Accountant (CIPFA or equivalent) and have: * Substantial experience of operating at executive level in social housing and/or related sectors, with a track record of delivering an effective finance service. * Experience of working with a Board. * A good grasp of the legal and regulatory framework for social housing providers. * An entrepreneurial flair with the ability to look to the future to see opportunities and bring innovation. * Strong commercial/financial acumen. * A strategic mindset, with the ability to self-start and exercise good judgement and intuition. We'll also expect you to be able to demonstrate how your preferred approach, reflected in your experience, exhibits our Ways of Working, and how your own passion and drive for what you do is in tune with our organisational Values.
