Overview

To lead and improve nursing and care standards and to support the running of the Care Centre and the general well-being of Clients and Staff Members in the Manager / Deputy Manager’s absence. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS Required: RGN / RMN - current NMC Pin number or relevant residential social work qualification/experience. Previous supervisory experience Ability to communicate effectively at all levels Full Driving Licence Genuine interest in working with the relevant Client group Satisfactory Police and ISA checks Satisfactory references Desired: Care of the elderly / mental health / palliative care experience and/or post graduate qualification Training / coaching experience Minimum three years nursing experience Good computer skills MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Care: Provide clinical leadership to ensure high standards of care delivery are always maintained. Conduct competency assessments and provide instruction, guidance and support to clinical team. Assess needs of prospective Clients and monitor the planning and evaluation of care and treatment. Monitor Care Plan documentation & undertake regular reviews to ensure best practice. Deliver general nursing & personal care as appropriate to Clients’ needs. Practise maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients. Promote person centred care and assist staff to plan and deliver care and nursing in an individualised way. Communication: Maintain effective communication with staff, provide feedback and liaise with manager to ensure information is cascaded. Liaise with the Activities Co-ordinator, Clients, Relatives and other Staff Members in the development of activities for Clients, which will enhance their quality of life. Liaise with the Chef / Cook to ensure the dietary needs of Clients are met and work with team to enhance the dining experience. Produce reports (verbal and written) as and when required. Undertake Client reviews in accordance with Company policy. Budgetary / Financial Control: Ensure all commodities used in and around the Care Centre are sensibly conserved by all Staff Members. Work within defined budgets and discuss any changes with the home manager as required. Human Resources: Adhere to and support all HR policies and procedures. Familiarise yourself with and support the Company’s Whistle blowing procedure. Familiarise yourself with and support the Company’s Disciplinary and Grievance policies. Provide supervision for staff members in line with company policy and regulation and conduct on-going assessment of the work of Staff Members, to ensure consistently high standards. Adhere to the company’s equality and diversity policy and ensure this is evident throughout all work procedures. Manage the Staff rota to reflect the required number and skill mix of staff in order to meet the needs of residents and the overall running of the home. Marketing: Promote a positive profile of the home within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Care Centre always. Work with the manager in ensuring the home is well presented at all times. Form part of the marketing team for the care centre and conduct show around and discuss needs of prospective clients. Provide the management function for the care centre in the absence of the home manager. Training & Development: Contribute to staff training to ensure all Staff Members receive the required statutory training and additional training to meet the needs of service users and enhance their own development. Maintain and improve own professional knowledge and competence. Attend mandatory training days/courses/meetings, on or off site, as required. Assist all grades of Staff with continuing professional development. Health & Safety: Be responsible for infection control. Monitor and review accident / incident reports and notify the appropriate authority as required. Report any health and safety concerns to the manager or appropriate person. Conduct health and safety audits in conjunction with the home manager. Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another. Understand, and ensure the implementation of the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures. Report any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazard to the appropriate person. Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre. General: Always provide clinical leadership to all care and nursing staff to ensure quality care. Adhere to all appropriate regulations and the NMC and GSCC Codes of Conduct. Ensure compliance with regulations and quality framework, support inspection procedures as necessary. Investigate complaints, as and when required. Organise clinical duties within the Care Centre, allocating care and nursing teams to ensure best outcomes for residents. Monitor the ordering and administration of drugs and maintain appropriate records. Maintain records in line with company policy and implement changes as directed by the Senior Management Team. Provide 'on-call’ cover as roistered and manage staff rota. Ensure all information of a confidential nature gained during work is not divulged to third parties. Assist in arrangements for fund raising. Notify your manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and on your return to work from all periods of absence. Ensure the security of the Care Centre is always maintained. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
