Overview
As a qualified accountant do you wonder how many finance jobs advertised as newly created are actually new? More often than not they are a tweaked version of an existing role. For any role to be created, not least in a finance function there is a lot of internal hoops to jump through, notwithstanding setting aside a budget for new headcount. I am pleased to say that this is a brand new role within the finance structure. It is part of creating a couple of new positions to not just align with their continued growth, but to see where the value truly lies. The Finance leadership team, senior management team and the (non-finance) commercial teams sat down to discuss the pros and cons of the following: a) To have a non-finance, a non-qualified accountant with a commercial background to sit within the business unit and take on the role b) For the finance team to play a direct role, and provide strong financial, commercial and strategic guidance from the perspective of a qualified accountant. They decided it was best to bring in a qualified accountant who has a strong bias in their experience working within a Commercial Finance, Finance Analyst, FP&A or other Business Partner type position. Or at least have these elements as a major component of their jobs to date. The decision also gives a clear insight into how the finance function is trusted and valued, the new incumbent knowing they have the full support of the business coming into such a role. As important for any interested accountant is the demonstration of how this is a Business Partner role in it's purest sense. As a qualified accountant, the majority of your recent experience must be sat within a role that demonstrates a one or more of financial analysis, commercial accounting, fp&a, decision support and/or business partnering. You will be embedded in a c£100 million turnover division of a larger group as the sole finance point of contact. This is an out and out 'true' Commercial roles, and as such requires ab CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified accountant who hasn't just touched on basic analysis and insights, but has embedded themselves as part of the role into the business. You will be the FBP lead for 2 key P&Ls within the group. Role: Commercial Finance Business Partner Location: South Yorkshire Salary: £45-48k base 5k car allowance benefits Travel requirements: You will spend 1-2 days a week travelling (day trips only) Interview process: This role will be a two-stage process, included within there an Excel test. For anyone looking for a quick turnaround, this role will be interviewed for and offered out this month. If you are an ACA/CIMA/ACCA qualified accountant with an experience bias leaning towards commercial finance and business partnering, who can also be trusted to work to a high degree of autonomy, can hold their own in weekly meetings with the Commercial Director and management teams, then this is a perfect opportunity to really test your abilities and excel in an environment that will regard you with plenty of future opportunities.
