Overview

We are working with a forward thinking borough who aim to be carbon neutral by 2030 They are looking for a Climate Action Manager to help deliver this. The role will identify, plan and coordinate measures to ensure the Council responds positively and decisively to emerging Environmental goals and objectives. The post holder will also provide coordination across the Council to ensure environmental objectives and improvements are complimentary and effective throughout a range of services. The post will be a highly visible leader throughout the Council and will set direction, create opportunities, improve performance and provide excellent communication to assist the Council in tackling the climate crisis. The manager will build and manage relationships internally and externally, and exploit opportunities for funding streams to ensure the Councils environmental agenda is at the forefront of decision making. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the delivery of environmental objectives, particularly in relation to declaration of the Climate Emergency by the Council. Description: People Management This role will require the management of consultants across a range of disciplines. The role will require the skillful re positioning of environmental objectives within the output of colleagues across various disciplines. The role will also require coordinating workloads with senior managers and seeking outputs from staff in other workstreams. Operational Service Delivery To draft the Council's overarching strategy for Climate Change To ensure that Climate Change is integral to the planning and delivery of all Council Services To prepare a baseline environmental position of the Council. To identify specific environmental targets alongside the ambitious target to be carbon neutral by 2030 To prepare a carbon and environmental management plan. To develop and maintain databases, particularly for capturing, storing and reviewing information, be responsible for the accurate maintenance and updating of records, for clarifying ownership of data and maintain the Council's records in relation to the climate emergency. To seek to secure funding streams to meet the ambitious environmental management objective To monitor and report on the progress of targets set out in the carbon and environmental management plan. To brief Councillors and Cabinet Members on the performance of the Council in relation to the carbon and environmental management plan. To advise on communications to promote positive messages and improve knowledge of the Council's environmental management role To write briefings and guidance for internal and external stakeholders regarding the Council's response to the declaration of a climate emergency. To attend public meetings and meetings of other organisations as may be required in connection with the duties of the post. To take the lead across Residents' groups to disseminate the messages on environmental objectives and climate management. Reflect the Councils Core values in all aspects of delivering the service such as equal opportunities, health and safety, customer care etc. To setup and chair environmental and climate management boards internally to ensure coordination across the Council's functions. To set up external boards for interested stakeholders within the borough to develop Council wide partnerships aimed at improving environmental performance. Service Planning & Development Continually track developments in the environmental field particularly with regards to environmental performance and climate management to ensure the Council's strategy and policy is relevant and up to date. Ensure that the statutory requirements of the legislation are delivered. To work collaboratively to provide the most effective response to statutory duties Financial & Resource Management To demonstrate cost-consciousness and identify any cost effective changes to own way of working. Assist with procurement and project management of external consultants where necessary. Qualifications: Post graduate qualification in relevant discipline (e.g. Environmental Science/ Environmental Management) Experience: Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering environmental and climate management plans Substantial experience in managing organisational environmental sustainability, at both a strategic and operational levels Demonstrable experience of supervision of contractors and consultants Track record of setting up and managing effective project programmes Track record of managing and coordinating environmental performance of various stakeholders, working collaboratively to deliver improved outcomes KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS A detailed grasp of climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental management and relevant environment and sustainability legislation Significant ability to coordinate multi disciplinary workloads to identify and achieve common goals Ability to use standard project management methodology Your expert recruitment consultant is Trevor Parsons, call today on or email Eden Brown is committed to equality in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer.
