You could be exactly what we need We're ideally looking for someone with: A proven track record, of working in a networking engineering environment in a network engineer role Solid understanding of TCP/IP protocol, including DNS, with a good working knowledge of IPv6 Sound working knowledge of major routing protocols and topologies - especially OSPF, IS-IS and BGP Ability to adapt to new situations and develop new skills, with a strong interest in emerging technologies About the role Did you know? Our network covers the UK from Cornwall to the Shetlands and Belfast to East Anglia It's the busiest National Research and Education Network (NREN) in Europe, carrying over 1.5 PBytes of information annually At its heart lies over 8,500 km of optical fibre carrying multiple 400 Gbit/s backbone circuits Over 700 Jisc members are connected via more than 30,000 km of access circuits We have a total of over 1.5 Tbit/s of connectivity to hundreds of global networks, cloud services, content providers and more Working in our network operations centre in London, you would be responsible for ensuring the effective management and stable operation of the Janet regional networks, including the access links in to the Janet core network. You will manage and operate all aspects of Jisc's Managed Router Service (MRS), providing an excellent service and support to Jisc members and customers that require assistance with their Janet network router - and, where necessary, give advice on network implementation and the design of their local area networks. You will be highly self-motivated with good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer-facing focus. You are able to work under your own initiative without immediate supervision as well as working as part of an operational team at any of the Janet NOC Office Locations at Jisc member premises or at Janet or Service Provider points of presence. You will have the confidence and ability to develop your technical skills, keeping yourself at the forefront of technological developments within the networking arena. You will also hold a full UK driving licence and be able and willing to travel, sometimes at short notice.
