Job Description

Hepatitis C is a blood borne virus that affects up to 100,000 people in England. Without treatment many will die of liver disease or cancer. Curative treatments are available for hepatitis C but many of those who are infected are not engaged in traditional services. NHS England is committed to eliminating hepatitis C over the next 5 years and the largest single investment in specialised commissioning has been made available to address this challenge. Barts Health leads the NE London regional network and is responsible for identifying and treating over 600 patients each year. Since many of these high risk individuals are disengaged the network is establishing new models of care involving extensive links to a diverse range of partners including addiction and homeless services, drug worker as well as sexual health and mental health partners. The new project manager will work closely with the local team to establish joint models of care using the very latest approaches to case finding and treatment. The success of the Network at identifying and treating individuals with Hepatitis C has meant that untreated patient numbers are falling sharply across the region. It will be the responsibility of the Network Manager in partnership with the Clinical Director to scope out further opportunities for Networked working within Hepatology across the partner organisations to ensure the purpose of the Network continues to align with the changing needs of the local population. This is an exciting role for an experienced manager with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health of some of the most vulnerable in society. The post holder should have credible leadership skills and an extensive understanding of service improvement and operational delivery within the NHS as well as the ability to develop innovative solutions and work with a highly diverse range of partners. The role requires an individual with the ability to manage integrated programmes of work in a highly complex environment. They will need to have experience and understanding of working with multiple stakeholders to deliver a complex system of care across organisational boundaries. The postholder will be accountable to the General Manager for Specialist Medicine for successful delivery in a number of work areas. The successful candidate will have significant financial skills and a track record of cost saving, business case development and delivery of whole pathway changes.
