FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Central London £Negotiable plus Benefits My client represents a significant number of established and emerging artists and continues with an innovative, high profile programme and strong national and international art fair presence. Perhaps unsurprisingly the world art market is performing relatively well right now. The business opened in 1996 in London and it is now located in Mayfair and New York. This is a really interesting and challenging role for someone who wants to get away from corporate madness. But you must have the flexibility to operate in a close knit team. The business has risen to the challenge of significant change over the years due to the ever changing dynamics of the art market along with internal re-structuring. This has involved refocusing the company brand to address the challenges in the market. The Directors now wish to appoint a Financial Controller who will be the senior finance person in the business reporting to the Managing Director. You will work closely with the management team to ensure the effective control, running and further development of the business. Operational Finance & Controls In any business at this stage of development, the key prerequisite is that you have the flexibility of mind and the intelligence to turn your hand at anything. From a finance and accounting perspective you should be prepared to do the following:- Oversight and preparation of all operational finance and management accounting matters and maintenance of appropriate financial controls Production of monthly management accounts and other financial information as required, providing insight and recommendations based on a financial perspective Production of year-end statutory accounts and audit Preparation of invoices Management of financial systems, policies and payroll considering financial risk and implementing schemes Cash flow management, to include monitoring and enforcing of customer invoice payment, approval of and payment of purchase orders, review of expenses and monies owed Management of taxation issues Ownership of company secretarial matters Ownership of insurance matters Personnel financial matters: e.g. payroll, expenses etc Working with the MD and major shareholders to help set achievable goals. Capital Expense planning The Candidate The ideal Financial Controller candidate will be a qualified Chartered Accountant or a qualified ACCA or CIMA with credible experience of playing a practical, functional role in the finance domain in an entrepreneurial business. S/he must be a functional expert with strong business controllership experience and with a practical approach to the 'hands on’ role of finance and accounting in a privately owned and closely managed business Experience in an art dealership, gallery or related environment will be useful. Alternatively experience of a similar role in luxury goods, retail or an FMCG business would be very useful. This was an interim role, but we are now looking to appoint a permanent Financial Controller.
