Overview

My client is an exceptionally reputable, ambitious and fast-growing legal firm in the heart of London - with an emphasis on commercial litigation, and a genuinely relaxed, modern office culture. Since it's inception over 30 years ago, they have in the last few years performed higher than the average consultancy in terms of financial performance - and with turnover currently at £3 million, this is expected to triple in the next 3 years - with forecasts built on solid foundations, and a clear direction for the years ahead. As a result of this expansion, they are now seeking an experienced, commercial Finance Manager (or Senior Accountant ready to step up) to carve out a small finance team in the next 12-24 months in line with this expansion. Reporting into the Managing Partner, you will initially deal with all levels of finance & accounting, until your first hire for Accounts Assistant; Sole charge of the finance function, providing an ever-growing strategic influence directly linked to the growth of the firm Create, develop and and strengthen the finance function and processes - and accounting controls Transfer financial data into commercial decision-making, providing crucial input into the firms growth strategy, headcount - and more - providing commentary to enable real commercial decisions through discussions and layman explanations to drive both billing and processes forward Production of the monthly management accounts and reconciliations Hold regular meetings between Partners and staff, and hold debtor review meeting Production of Solicitors Account Rules monthly reconciliation reports Production of monthly fee-earner performance reports and other performance-related reports Deal with supplier statement reconciliations, supplier payments using the firm's online banking system Cash flow forecasting and update the Partners daily via email cash flow reports Deal with (initially) all aspects of transactional finance, including but not limited to; credit control, accounts payable, invoicing, daily account reconciliations, distributing & posting of petty cash, ensure ledgers are zeroed before file closure, action payroll - and VAT returns Candidate Requirements; Qualified ACA / CIMA / ACCA with sufficient experience in a litigation law firm in the UK as Finance Manager or Senior Accountant Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Solicitors Account Rules, Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and HMRC procedures Experience of working in a sole capacity whilst providing strategic, commercial influence with a business - ideally a legal firm Strong Excel and experience of preparing financial reports which are meaningful, with a high degree of accuracy Demonstrate commitment to improving working practices and support the firm's plans and policies, recognising this is a high-level post reporting Directly to partners who will rely on the Finance Manager for strategic guidance and key input Have a 'can-do', positive and solutions-focused mindset, with an ability to forge and maintain working relationships and be approachable to all queries both internally and externally Possess strong verbal and written skills, with a demonstrable ability to influence and a commercial outlook - and juggle multiple tasks accurately and effectively Be comfortable with a relaxed office atmosphere, with a casual dress code and pets occasionally permitted in the office
