Overview

Job Title: Financial Accountant Company: Plastic Energy Limited Location: London Overview Plastic Energy is at the forefront of converting non-recyclable end-of-life plastic - destined for landfill and incineration, or that is leaked into our oceans - into high grade oils for making clean recycled plastics, or alternative low-carbon fuels. Our company mission is to play a significant role in solving the global plastic problem, and to be the established world leader in chemical recycling. We promote the concept of a Circular Economy, and we use a patented Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC) technology to convert end-of-life and valueless plastics into a product known as TACOIL, which chemical/petrochemical companies can transform back into food-grade recycled plastics. Plastic Energy has offices in London (its technology HQ) and Madrid, and regional offices in Singapore and Malaysia. We currently have two chemical recycling plants in Spain operating at commercial scale, have three projects underway in Western Europe, and new developments defined in South East Asia. We are now looking for a self-motivated and qualified Financial Accountant to join our finance department, reporting to our Group Financial Controller. This position requires someone who enjoys rolling their sleeves up and getting involved with different aspects of the finance function; and has excellent interpersonal skills which will allow them to reach solutions, and deal with issues, in an efficient and friendly way. You will be part of a team of four in the UK, and also work remotely with colleagues in Spain and Asia. There may be some limited travel to Spain required. This is an exciting time to join our pioneering and growing company. You will be helping to put financial processes and controls in place, maximising the use of the newly implemented ERP system across the existing and newly forming entities, and engaging with colleagues from all different parts of the business in relation to budgetary controls and financial performance analysis. The role will be based in our London office of around forty people. Role and Responsibilities Manage certain, and assist on other, financial accounting activities for our UK company. Take ownership of the underlying monthly financial close process for the UK company. With the new ERP system and with the expanding group operations, there is a great opportunity to make the process your own and bring significant improvements. Support the monthly and quarterly consolidated reporting process, and assist with preparation for Management and Board meetings. Take oversight responsibility (with occasional cover) of the process for recording supplier invoices and bank payments on the accounting system. Perform supplier statements versus ledger and bank reconciliations. Provide ad hoc support on the cashflow forecasting, budgeting and FP&A processes. Support colleagues across the business in cost control and monitoring their activities against budget, and respond to accounting related questions. Work with the rest of the team to prepare the year-end audit files and financial statement disclosures, and liaise with auditors. This is not an exhaustive list of tasks. A key aspect of working at Plastic Energy is to be open and ready to roll up your sleeves and help other colleagues when necessary on ad hoc tasks, which calls for efficient management of priorities. Person Specification Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA), preferably with a mixture of audit and industry experience. Strong practice background. Open and communicative, with an excellent standard of oral and written English, and the enthusiasm to meet and work with many different people, and be part of a growing team. Self-starter with the ability and willingness to operate at whatever level is needed to get the job done, whether doing bookkeeping tasks, or supporting the Group Financial Controller with financial planning. Strong Excel skills. Confident, co-operative and resourceful, with a strong team ethic. Able to work accurately under pressure, to meet deadlines. Experience, or a strong interest, in sustainability or the alternative energy sector (desirable). A second language (desirable). Package Salary £45,000 - £50,000 25 days holiday per year Private healthcare Pension Season ticket loan.
