Overview

Role: 2nd Line IT Support Technician Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 per annum depending on experience Location: Liverpool Our client offers a wide range of business services & solutions. The role: Role Purpose Working with other members of the IT team in the Liverpool office, London head office or any of the other sites, reporting directly to the local IT Team Leader, the IT Support Technician provides users of the domain first and second-line support. The IT Support Technician is also responsible for the management, configuration and day-to-day maintenance of numerous software and hardware systems. Key Accountabilities Support of the IT network, servers, workstations and other hardware, in particular: Installation and commissioning of Laptops, PCs and peripherals, Installation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of server and client-side software, Continuous monitoring of IT systems; prioritising and addressing any problems that may occur, First-line technical support of software and hardware to users, in particular when covering the IT Service Desk Technician’s absence, Department housekeeping and administration duties (keeping IT areas tidy and secure and in general be aware of security lapses). Second-line technical support to other back office teams, Liaising with and overseeing third-party service providers. Adherence to data security, data protection and GDPR Other Attention to detail, Excellent time management, Good verbal and written communication skills; in particular when discussing and explaining technical subjects with non-technical staff, Very strong problem-solving skills, Capable working alone and as part of a team, Able to produce and maintain documentation for users and IT staff, Able to plan, manage & deliver projects and to produce work to deadline, Provide additional support and input to the business as required, Provide input to the IT group meetings, Ensure that your calendar and any shift rotas are maintained in a timely manner, Ensure your work area is always tidy and presentable, Always be mindful of the IT commercials and cost/benefit analysis, Always be mindful of wastage and operational efficiencies, Ensure you are aware of FCA regulations for AML, Financial Crime, Conduct Risk & Treating Customers Fairly, Familiarity with the Data Protection Act (2018), the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679) and the principles defined therein. The successful candidate: Required Appropriate IT qualifications and accreditations. In depth working experience of the common user applications required i.e. Microsoft application suite. In-depth working knowledge of the operational and support aspects of computer systems, hardware, software and peripheral equipment. In-depth laptop/desktop support experience. In-depth server support experience. In-depth printer installation & support experience. In-depth working knowledge of Windows XP & Windows 7 knowledge & support experience. In depth working knowledge of SAN technologies (EMC). In depth working knowledge of LAN, WAN and Firewall technologies. Good working knowledge of equipment, Cisco, Aruba, Meraki and Barracuda. Good working knowledge of SQL and support experience Good working knowledge and experience of HTML, JAVA and PHP Confident in supporting Mobile devices Basic telephony support including IP telephony Broad understanding of differing technologies Desirable Appropriate ITIL Certificate Preferable employment history in a Financial Institute General IT systems: Microsoft System Centre, Service Desk software (e.g. support helpdesk), Backup software (VEEAM, Backup-Exec), VOIP Telephony (in particular Avaya): Server-side (provision of DDIs, call routing, etc.) Network-level (patching and understanding of PoE), Client-side (connection and use of handsets, etc.) Server and virtualisation platforms: EMC SAN solutions, VMWare, vSphere (or equivalent, e.g. VirtualBox, Hyper-V).
