Overview
Senior Technical Consultant We are working closely to recruit on behalf our our Edinburgh based Financial Services client for a Senior Technical Consultant. This is a key role in the Infrastructure Operations & Service Delivery team and critical to the delivery of both customer and colleague facing technology to the Bank. Contributing technical expertise to the design and planning of a stable technical infrastructure to support business processes, this role is accountable for the end to end architecture of: Middleware and Data Platforms Mainframe and Mid-range compute platforms Datacentre operations Cloud Services The role holder will lead on all activity to ensure that technical solutions on route to, and in live operation, are designed and delivered in such a way that all standards and required operational functional requirements are met and exceeded. Key responsibilities include: Responsible for the overall Technical Authority for the production estate, defining and implementing standards (including NFRs), owning governance processes and working collaboratively with Design, Transition, Strategy and Architecture to ensure alignment across the IT organisation Technical and operational ownership of the pre-production environment Working alongside Service Delivery to understand business requirements and expectations then leading CSI initiatives to improve business service performance Ensure that all costs of IT Run are understood and that plans are in place for cost optimisation and on-going monitoring Working with key Outsourced providers and Managed Service Partners to review performance of technical services and own any remediation plans Lead on the CSI plans around IT Automation to deliver increased efficiency and effectiveness of IT operations Sign-off of major change initiatives and new services into production Represent CIO Infrastructure and Service delivery at Technical Design governance forums Lead on major production incidents and problems acting as a senior central point of contact to work on remediation plans Ownership of operational tooling strategy and implementation for monitoring, alerting, logging and visualation Deputise for the Head of Infrastructure Operations & Service Delivery and other Senior Technical Operations Managers as required We'd love you to have these skills and experience: Ability to negotiate and influence across peers, departmental functions, leadership and external partners Ability to use a range of techniques to bring multi-disciplined teams together to deliver the right outcome for the bank Highly self-motivated individual who is able to identify areas for improvement and create and own CSI plans to remediate or improve Deep understanding and knowledge of: Middleware deployments in an enterprise environment, preferably though the use of a microservice architecture Data and Storage Midrange and Mainframe computing Public and Private Cloud computing in an enterprise context Networking and Data Centre technologies Experience in owning end-to-end infrastructure solutions in an enterprise environment providing live, operational services Strong experience of working with Managed Service Providers and with Outsourced IT models. Track record of working within a SIAM model to improve IT performance and efficiency Operationally experience in the use of enterprise motioning and alerting tools for APM, Logging, Infrastructure and Visualisation tools Ability to create and maintain a culture and vision where colleagues are engaged and inspired to deliver within budget and timelines for their customers Ability to build and develop the culture of the CIO function as a key member of the IT Production Services Leadership Team, and support the development of the CIO culture across the Bank Ability to cope in a technically complex and fast-changing environment Strong planning and organising skills Ability to manage technical operations simultaneously whilst balancing business priorities and quality Ability to think strategically and evaluate options in the short, medium and long term Excellent communication skills with a capacity to present, discuss and explain issues coherently and logically both in writing and verbally Ability to succinctly disseminate important messages to an executive audience Excellent influencing and persuasion skills with the ability to enthuse and inspire multidisciplinary teams and build successful relationships at all levels Clear decision-making ability with the facility to judge complex situations and assess when to escalate issues Ability to balance conflicting and changing demands through prioritisation and a pragmatic approach Self motivated, able to work on own initiative and able to work collaboratively and constructively within project and discipline teams Demonstrate business leadership skills and the ability to communicate a clear vision to others Lead and develop the capacity and capability of the direct reports and wider team
