My client, an internatioanl financial services organisation based in Lonon, are looking for a Network Engineer to join their growing team. About the Network Engineer role?: The Network Engineer will develop, manage and maintain the client's core IT infrastructure standards encompassing all components within the client's network infrastructure including services such as LAN, WAN, routers, switches and firewalls and key management systems therein. In addition, the role may require contribution to other platform areas such as Databases, Storage, Unix, Voice services including Dealer Board systems and VoIP and Windows services such as Active Directory, Citrix, Exchange, VMware, Windows server infrastructure and Desktop platforms, together with Enterprise Monitoring of all delivered services. This includes defining patterns, templates and repeatable processes leading to industrialization of IT delivery for the client. The team will also have responsibility for defining technical product roadmaps and will engage with vendors to maintain the currency of the client's estate. Reporting directly into the Engineering Manager, the role contains the following responsibilities: To be a SME specific to the Engineers domain of expertise, working closely with the senior Network Engineer in the team Specific to the Engineers domain, provide strong technical skills and experience within the client's Engineering team and to other technology teams Maintaining the strong working relationship between IT Operations and Engineering Apply knowledge to delivery of project related deliverables such as high and low level designs Share knowledge, experience and directly contribute to the client's continual service improvement plans and long term strategies Working with IT Operations, InfoSec and other key stakeholders to create long term strategies and roadmaps to the point where they receive executive sponsorship and appropriate budgetary funding needed for implementation Responsibilities: Forecasting, planning and stability are essential factors to ensure the client's technology platform is a solid foundation on which the client and their associated business can expand its product portfolio. Through engagement with key stakeholders such as IT Senior Management and IT Operations and Architecture, identify opportunities for business improvement based on relevant developments in the field of IT. The Network Engineer role will have ownership of infrastructure development and configuration specific to the domain specialization of the Engineer with the following direct responsibilities: Contribution to the technology and related infrastructure product roadmaps Creation, maintenance and communication of technical infrastructure platform standards Contribution to creation and delivery of a product catalogue Build of the technology tower components and design patterns Participation in projects, bringing technology roadmap expertise to bear particularly in the project planning and design phase, with oversight through the build and implementation phases Contribution or ownership of high-level designs (dependent on technology, scale and overall requirement) Creating low-level pattern or template designs Implementing technology defined in a low-level pattern or design Provide consultancy to project or operational teams to ensure appropriate selection of technology Liaison with architects, operational and project teams to ensure patterns and standard building blocks meet the client's requirements Performance, compatibility testing and dependency management between components Automation and scripting of delivery processes or frameworks such as a build or application delivery In partnership with Operations, manage vendor relationships with focus on product futures and currency Knowledge transfer to IT Operations for new technology or project deliveries, including process and technical documentation for handover to support teams Maintenance of Engineering delivered documentation, roadmaps and similar artifacts to ensure currency Engagement of Infrastructure Engineering to resolve complex implementation or other technical issues Contribute to the delivery of efficient solutions to meet business continuity and disaster recovery requirements When appropriate, participate in operational change management process When appropriate, ensure suitable contribution to major incident recovery processes Required Knowledge and Level of Experience Career history and work experience within an Exchange, financial services or similar environment is a critical requirement for this role. Cisco certified to CCIE/CCDE level with suitable employment experience. The successful candidate must have a minimum 5 years experience in a large financial organisation. Expert Cisco networking experience specifically with Cisco Routers, Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches and solid understanding of advanced WAN Protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS) Expert knowledge of STP, DHCP ,DNS, HSRP, VLANS, VRF's, Port Channels, IP Addressing and Sub-netting Network Security with VPNs, Firewalls, and ACLs. Knowledge of load balancer technology especially A10's and F5 Big IP Expert knowledge in Network IDS/IPS technologies Good knowledge of Internet security controls such as web filtering and content management Strong understanding of network enterprise monitoring solutions and associated operational support processes.
