A global high-tech aerospace, defence & security company, they are recruiting heavily across all their engineering disciplines and business units due to various major future programmes and contract wins, one being TEMPEST, the future stealth fighter aircraft. This particular role is in the systems engineering team and is an exciting opportunity as it offers the opportunity for an individual to develop and ultimately grow into the roles of the project team's Design Authority. Ideally candidates should be experienced in all aspects of the Systems Engineering life-cycle, with a particular focus on supporting system acceptance, assuring system safety and supporting the transition into full operational service. Experience of the in-service support phase is therefore highly desirable, along with a good knowledge of logistics support for large systems. Key Responsibility Areas Become the primary technical lead responsible for the complete system design and act as the primary point of contact for the customer's acquisition team on all technical design and safety matters Own and manage the technical interfaces to existing systems and newly introduced hardware and services Closely work with supply chain partners to gather verification evidence, assess and manage any design changes (including obsolescence) and maintain overall design integrity for the systems Review problem reports / trouble tickets from the in service systems and manage improvement actions Lead technical design reviews for design changes and any corrective actions Maintain the design baseline (along with the relevant design documents) and the product baseline (managing the system Build Standard and the associated documentation). Work with safety specialists to maintain the Safety Case for each site, including the relevant hazard analysis, and gather evidence of hazard mitigations Working with the ILS Manager, support the development, verification and approval of Technical Manuals and Training material. Support the project engineering manager to plan new tasks and report on progress. Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required Essential: Previous Design Authority experience working on large scale systems integration projects and in-service support. Hands on experience and knowledge in the following technical domains: satellite communications systems, military communications, power distribution systems. Conducting, analysing and reporting of qualification testing to support design certification. Experience of safety hazard assessment, risk mitigation and the development of Safety Case documentation. Experience of large systems information management and configuration management, including the maintenance of product baselines and managing design changes. Desirable: Experience of the Systems Engineering life-cycle, from development and management of requirements through to acceptance testing and in-service support. Management experience working with other Engineering disciplines and external suppliers/customers. Working knowledge of DOORS for requirements management. Experience mentoring and coaching of others.
