An exciting opportunity has arisen for Rapid Diagnostic Service Lead Nurse at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). In this role you will be the Lead Nurse for the new Wessex Rapid Diagnostic Service and will have an instrumental role in the development and running of this service. Please note this role will be based at Southampton General Hospital initially but we hope to move to the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) Headquarters in Otterborne. This will be the physical location of the Rapid Diagnostic Service which is jointly hosted by UHS and SCAS. The post holder will be required to work a pattern which gives cover over all five working days, Monday to Friday. ABOUT THE TEAM You will be joining an exciting, new and developing service, the Wessex Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS).This is a regional service which is delivered using a virtual model, to provide a cancer fast track referral route for patients seen in Primary Care with non-specific symptoms. The RDS aims to speed up diagnosis for this typically hard to diagnose group and to improve overall patient experience. You will be part of a small team and will very much be part of shaping and developing this new service as it scales over the next four years. The service has four years of national funding to develop it and broaden its scope before becoming embedded as part of business as usual for our regional cancer pathways and services. WHAT YOU'LL DO * On a day to day basis you will be engaging directly with clinical, medical and nursing teams in the management of patents, providing specialist advice, skills leadership, collaboration and consultancy. * You will undertake autonomous working through provision of initiation of investigations, interpretation of results and optimising patients' condition in discussion with the multidisciplinary team, acting as the nursing lead for the service. * You will work closely with the RDS Team, actively contributing to the overall management and strategic direction of the service. * You will also work closely with primary care colleagues, including the Hub GP in the first instance, with plans to expand the service to incorporate emergency and 111 referrals. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You will be someone who is able to perform at an advanced level within the four broad based competencies of advanced nursing practice: - Expert clinical practice; - Leadership and collaborative practice; - Improving quality and developing practice; - Developing self and others. * You will be working towards MSc in Advanced Practice and will have skills in non-Medical Prescribing and have an accredited Examination and History Taking qualification. * You will have excellent, proven, leadership and communication skills. * You will be able to work autonomously as our nursing lead and will provide a strong clinical presence; assuring the provision of a safe, effective and evidence based nursing and medical care to patients. * You will be motivated and enthusiastic with personal drive and ability to use your own initiative to work independently.
