Digital Engineering is based in central Bristol, near St Nick’s Market and the Harbourside, a bustling, creative area that provides something for everyone. A job opportunity has opened within the technical team for a motivated and driven data scientist / innovation engineer. The team is involved with the development and delivery of innovative projects for customers in the electricity transmission and distribution industry. Examples of on-going projects are: Renewable energy power forecasting; using our bespoke system which delivers wind and solar power forecasts multiple times per day Assessing the impact of the weather on electricity infrastructure, for example: how does the weather cause damage to overhead power lines? Modelling how the electricity system will change in the future, in order to meet targets to reduce carbon emissions Digital Engineering is seeking an ambitious candidate with the required skills to coordinate and lead technical projects. Clear communication is essential, both when working closely with technical colleagues, as well as reporting to management and customers. The varied and constantly changing nature of the work we do means that the candidate must be willing to adapt and learn new skills. A typical project will include data analysis and visualisation, software development and communicating with stakeholders. Qualifications: A degree in a relevant field (e.g. computer science/ engineering/ physics/ meteorology) Experience and Skills: Essential: At least three years of relevant professional experience in industry and/or working closely with industry during academia Experience working directly with stakeholders Project management experience Clear verbal and written communication; able to convey technical subjects to non-technical audience Problem solving; ability to find and develop new and innovative solutions to problems Ability to work well as part of a team, and be organised and motivated to work independently when require Experience with software development (e.g. Python) Beneficial: Experience of applied data analytics Sector specific knowledge (e.g. understanding of the UK electricity system) Experience with high-performance and/or cloud computing and working in a Unix environment Other: Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK You may be required to travel and work away from office for short periods of time Regular company funded social events 40 hours per week.
