Research Grants Officer Temporary Assignment 3 Months £22-£23 per hour According to Level Of Experience Main purpose of the job This is a multi-faceted role leading a team of Research Administrators to ensure the smooth and effective running of Research administration and support. You will take responsibility for managing your own portfolio of research activity undertaken in our six academic departments. Duties and responsibilities Ensure the effective and efficient day-to-day running of research administration and project administration support for research activity across a portfolio of departments by line managing a small team of administrative staff (research administration and project administration) to deliver a high-quality service. Proactively co-ordinate administration workflows in collaboration with the Research Operations Manager within the research operations team in a way that ensures an optimum level of support is provided to staff who are undertaking research activity. Work with the Research Operations Manager and relevant Heads of Academic Department to monitor the funding and contractual position of academic and professional staff employed directly on research projects. Assist the Research Operations Manager to ensure appropriate advice and guidance is provided to staff concerning financial regulations, policies, procedures related to all aspects of administering research activity and managing financial accounts across research projects. Assist the Research Operations Manager in co-ordination and preparation of management information and reports, and to play a key role in effectively co-ordinating risk management across funded research activity across the University Work with the Research Operations Manager to co-ordinate the professional development of staff within the research operations team, including inducting new staff, assisting with team meetings with the aim building a shared sense of purpose and objective, facilitating training and learning in procedures for research administration, and contributing to the day to day support to members of the administration team Support one academic department or research centre with a portfolio of direct research administration work, including: Working with and supporting academic and research staff with the administration of applications for funded research work (pre-award administration) in accordance with the operating framework, including: Preparation of proposal costings and related budgetary information; Advising academic and research colleagues on Full Economic Costing policy, how this relates to the terms and conditions set by funding organisations, and ensuring compliance with same Advising academic and research colleagues on the procedures for ensuring that Ethical considerations, Risk Assessments and Quality Assurance matters are appropriately dealt with; Supporting academic and research colleagues with the preparation of research funding applications; including checking and formatting documentation as appropriate; Working, as required, in conjunction with administration colleagues from research partner organisations on collaborative proposals and arrangements; Advising relevant staff, including Head of Academic Department on contribution rates and budgeting requirements for exceptional research funding bids. Work with and supporting academic and research staff with the administration of successful applications for funded research work (post-award administration) in accordance with operating framework, including: Establishing and maintaining accurate and accessible project records, documentation and files (electronic and hard copies as appropriate), and where needed in collaboration with the University Assisting the principal investigator with setting up a project and advising on recruitment processes and also how and where the principal investigator can access additional business support for issues relating to project administration, human resources (recruitment and employment), contracts/subcontracts); Monitoring project finances on a regular basis, ensuring income and expenditure is correctly accounted for against budget codes as part of project tracking, and working with the research co-ordinator, research operations manager and Post-award colleagues to inform reporting arrangements, resolve operational issues and take corrective action where necessary in discussion with the principal investigator; Supporting the principal investigator in dealing with administration requests made by the funding organisation, including progress/ final evaluation reports and financial statements.
