Overview

Our client is a leading Energy Technology company that operates globally, deploying a unique combination of technology and expertise to unlock distributed energy resource value and serve sustainable energy needs. They’re currently looking for an experienced and talented Commercial Manager to join their Team. They partner with electric utilities, distribution system operators, energy storage owners and aggregators and their technology are active in over 10 countries, optimising and monetising over 1GW of energy on behalf of our partners. A role has now arisen for a Commercial Manager with a background in the Distributed Energy Resource / energy industry to lead the commercial part of the business which focusses on providing "Platform-as-a-Service" (PaaS / VPP) solutions to aggregate/control/monetise Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to electric utilities, energy storage assets owners and independent aggregators globally. Responsibilities Lead the commercial element of the Distributed Energy and Energy Storage Management Systems business globally Design and implement commercial processes and assure commercial rigour across the business Working with electric utilities and independent aggregators globally Responsible for commercial offering to customers (contract, T&Cs, margins etc), including direct C&I customers in the UK Put together the offer to customer, working closely with Solution Architect, Sales, Technology and Fulfilment Negotiate and approve final agreement Lead hand-over to Fulfilment after contract signature Win new business, identify opportunities, develop technology and expansion into new markets Responsible for developing business cases, commercial proposals and offers to optimize the value of distributed energy management in the UK and globally Establish excellent working relationships with all players in the DER value chain including utility companies, aggregators, asset owners, energy storage suppliers, developers, operators, turnkey installation companies, regulators Co-develop the partnership and channel strategy for the DER Management team Identify opportunities to grow the business including through partnerships and new markets Establish internal processes/templates and identify opportunities for improvement Lead coordination between Sales, Solutions Architect and Commercial function About you The ideal candidate will be excited to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment at the cutting edge of energy technology and driven to deliver growth in a medium sized company with a 'start-up’ culture. Commercial acumen and experience such as originating (PaaS / VPP) offers and proposals (commercially and technically), negotiation, contracts management, developing business cases and interaction with customers / suppliers / partners are a prerequisite for this role. They will have a strong engineering / science / technical background with a track record in distributed energy. They will also have a broad knowledge of the electricity system, power system economics, market trends and the wider regulatory environment. An ability to think strategically and direct the business accordingly, as well as experience in project management is a further plus for a potential candidate. This position requires a mature individual with strong interpersonal and presentation skills and will involve national and international travel. The ability to nurture relationships with clients throughout projects is crucial. The role requires interfacing with a cross-functional team including sales, solution architecture, technology development, project management, data analytics and product management. Strong commercial acumen including extensive client facing experience Strong technical and operational knowledge of distributed energy and power, energy storage is a plus Awareness of the project development lifecycle and the challenges of distributed energy resources.
