About the Client Our client is a London UK based non-profit think tank working on the cutting edge of climate and sustainability issues. Their highly original analysis of the climate agenda has been covered by media globally, used and acted on by hundreds of investors and has informed numerous campaigns. They are probably best known for their unique platform for analyzing corporate lobbying on climate policy. Other work streams are the FinanceMap platform assessing the financial sector and its impact on climate as well as a Japanese collaborative venture. One of their core values is the use of data-intensive research processes to create simple and compelling narratives on climate change. At the heart of this is their strict adherence to thorough and objective data analysis, using a range of sources and tools. Our client operates a collaborative model, creating unique and data driven content which enables their partners to drive positive change on the climate crisis. These partners are from finance, business, media, campaigns, politics and legal strategies and are global. About the Role This will be a key role within the organization and you will greatly add value to the organization as their work is increasingly driven by sophisticated data and technology strategies. You will work on data intensive projects, particularly the Finance Map. Your role will be to work with the project manager on all aspects of their data acquisition, input, research and analysis to ensure they are able to create and disseminate the content they need to. You will also manage the underlying data and software systems that drive their work under instruction from their Technical Director. The back end of their system is based on MySQL databases with coding primarily in Python and you will be thoroughly familiar with and be able to guide its development and maintenance. You will work closely with key external datasets they deploy for their work. Key Responsibilities: Managing all data aspects of Finance Map Testing, manipulating and aggregating data from their financial data providers Reuters, S&P and Bloomberg and other proprietary and in-house generated data Maintaining their CMS and back end architecture Working with their designer to evolve and improve their front end and user experience Managing the databases and data integrity of their overall back-end systems. You will report to the Research Director and work closely with their Technical Director responsible for designing their overall architecture Skills, Experience and Qualifications: Excellent analytical and organizational skills Ability to multi-task and handle time-sensitive work Experience with Python, MySQL, PANDAS, NumPy and front-end software Bootstrap, Markdown Highly desirable: experience with Twisted and jQuery A university degree Right to work in the UK Knowledge of their work area (climate change/policy/finance) is not essential but an interest would be useful Fluency in English Salary, Location and Start Date: The position is based in their office at 40 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 Working from home and flexible hours are possible Salary £30K-40K depending on experience/qualifications This is a full-time position Start date first quarter of 2020 How to Apply Our client values diversity and provides equal opportunities to all candidates.
