Overview
Role : Behavioural Economics Research & Insight Manager Location : Central London Salary : £50,000 to £55,000 bonus and corporate benefits package The last time you went to the supermarket, how much of the advertising were you consciously aware of? In addition, how much of it were you aware of it influencing your behaviour? Being someone versed in behavioural economics, I’m expecting you’re likely the kind of person who’s actually able to answer these questions. Which brings us onto why you’re here. Each store has up to around 20,000 different customer communications littered around it. That’s a lot of noise the consumer has to cut through. What you’ll be undertaking is both primary and secondary studies to understand the impact and effectiveness of current retail communications programmes, whilst looking to advise on how to have best impact and resonance with the consumer. For one part of their business there’s a roadmap and toolkit in mind to be built. As they’ve been carrying out these studies for a number of years with a good degree of success. Whilst another major part to their business hasn’t been quite so progressive. So there’s lots of quick wins to be had as you educate this business on the value of behavioural economics studies to their retail operation. This includes carrying out neuro ad testing studies for stores, looking at customer eye movement and behavioural patterns. There’s scope to make this role your own in many areas. Shaping thinking on how to get to end goals rather than following well-trodden paths. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT It’s worth highlighting, this isn’t a role which just owns behavioural economics, but is also responsible for overseeing the roll out and usage of the company’s Knowledge Management platform. A centre of knowledge for everything they know about the customer. All business performance insight, customer insight, marketing insight and behavioural economic studies. Both primary and secondary source. It’s a proprietary self-serve platform which is principally built and getting the finishing touches on being populated. Your remit with this will be to project manage the roll-out to internal stakeholders. Demonstrating the value it can bring, getting colleagues to engage with it. THE BUSINESS AND TEAM This is a big retail organisation. One who’s thriving in the current climate. The team is made up of 5 Insight Manager, each owning a different part of the research and insights programme which informs the marketing function about customer behaviour, campaign and store performance. The projects you will undertake will be a mix of primary and secondary studies, and will instruct projects to a panel of external suppliers. Choosing who’s best to deliver a project based on their area of expertise. Alongside is a broader insights unit who feed into different parts of the business, including buyer and trading teams, loyalty and operations. It’s a unit of around 40. Experience necessary Led Behavioural Economics studies within a commercial environment, ideally connected to marketing and the influence it has on consumer behaviour Project management skills, particularly relevant for the knowledge management piece and being able to engage with large stakeholder groups, establishing their buy-in and engagement with changing the way they work to engage with new insight platforms Enthusiastic about this kind of subject matter and able to be a champion for the customer and use of insight within a business Outgoing, confident and able to articulate what’s being achieved in these areas to engage stakeholders across a business.
