Job Description
Band 7 Practice Development Nurse We are looking to recruit a motivated candidate willing to provide energy and enthusiasm to drive Paediatric service delivery forward. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision and values and who is interested in further development of self and others. Working as part of the education team, the Special Care Baby Unit Practice Development Nurse role involves identifying and delivering sustainable educational programme which will improve the delivery of patient focus services amongst nursing staff including HCA'S and Newly Qualified nurses. You would be joining an expanding team at an exciting time in this development. Should possess excellent communication, assessment and planning skills are willing to work with change and challenge to ensure improved lives and futures for Children and Young People and their and families. Our Neonatal Unit West Middlesex University Hospital's (WMUH), Special Care Baby unit (SCBU) which is situated adjacent to Queen Mary's Maternity Unit (QMMU) forms part of the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Trust. WMUH SCBU has 16 operational cots; 12 designated for Special Care babies and 4 that are used flexibly for the management of HDU babies or for stabilisation prior to transfer of babies requiring intensive care. The unit also has 5 individual ensuite rooms which are used to provide transitional care or step down 'rooming-in' care for babies and their parents. The unit provides a family-centered approach that is responsive to the medical and psychosocial needs of babies and their families. Special care is provided to babies who require additional care delivered by the neonatal service. This includes babies receiving oxygen via nasal cannula, feeding by nasogastric tubes, jejunal or gastrostomy, continuous monitoring, care of stoma, presence of intravenous cannula, receiving phototherapy or special or physiological observations. It also includes pain management, breastfeeding support, kangaroo care, discussions with consultants; leaflets and information explaining common procedures. Job Summary You will act as an expert practitioner and role model in order to develop a workforce with the ability to provide safe and optimum quality standards of care. Will work strategically and operationally within the education team to promote the teaching, training and on-going development of Nursing staff including Ensuring our non-registered workforce continuing personal, professional and practice development is an active process within the Children and Neonatal services. Provide leadership and management, including absence management and development for a team of nurses within Neonatal service.Provide specialist Neonatal advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, Individualised care to patients/clients, and relatives in collaboration with the multi-professional team within local and national standards.
