Department Overview Bain's Next-Generation Software Solutions (NGSS) team's mission is to develop and support digital products for Bain consultants and clients, to allow them to get to better, faster insights and results. Position Summary Bain is seeking an Associate Project Manager with a software development project or product background to join its dynamic team. Successful candidates should demonstrate flexibility, as well as the ability to build rapport with our internal clients, team members, managers, and senior executives. The individual in this role must have be able to drive their work forwards, demonstrating a strong bias for action and a passion for results. Bain's Project Managers work across multiple disciplines and industries, and must be able to understand their clients' businesses and build credibility quickly. They must be comfortable working on a range of project types and sizes, from rapid proof of concept creation up to large-scale product development initiatives. Additionally, projects may require support across a broad range of domains, including UI/UX design, project management, commercial and product marketing activities, and supplier interactions and management. Typical project archetypes include custom and packaged system development and implementation, process or system improvement, vendor selection, and product definition, development, and launch using a variety of methodologies. Essential Functions Work with the client * Understand the Practice's business challenges to support design of effective solutions that address their people, process, technology, and data needs * Help product owners and Project Managers assess concept viability through build/buy/partner analysis and, when needed, develop business cases to support funding requests * Support prioritization decisions by the product owner on the product backlog * Support creation of commercial model and go-to-market strategy for new software products Execute the work * Manage progress of the project, including completion of requirements, communication with stakeholders, escalation of roadblocks and risks, and ensuring appropriate product quality at appropriate cost * Support product innovation and ideation workshops using user-centric design methodologies (e.g., personas, customer journeys), conduct customer and end-user research, and create lo-fi wire-framing * Be able to work in an Agile management environment * Work with other stakeholders (including technical teams) to help deliver new software * Use common Agile software tools to manage the project and requirements (e.g., Trello, Jira) * Work a cross-functional project team, often virtually and across time-zones, consisting of Bain and supplier resources Work with suppliers * Work with and manage the work of product vendors as well as outsourced development partners * Work with team leadership to help identify and vet new vendors and partners General * Be a positive contributor in the Portfolio, Product and Project team, and the wider Next-Gen Software Solutions team * Good general problem-solving abilities both on software development challenges and broader commercial challenges * Experience in applying project management and Agile methodologies Qualifications Education Required: * BA / MSc or equivalent undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials Preferred: * Formal project management qualification (eg PMP, PRINCE2 or Agile PM) Experience Required: * 2-3years successful track record in B2B software project or product management Preferred * 2-3 years in a technolog
