Country: United Kingdom Location: Southampton Function: Scientific Research & Development Level: Experienced Professional Appointment Type: Permanent Metabolomics has become an indispensable tool in natural product discovery for chemical profiling and biological activity assessments of small molecules. Comparative metabolomics is a powerful technique for research. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced candidate with demonstrated expertise in LC- and GC-MS-based metabolomics coupled with intensive statistical analysis of natural products to join our New Sciences team. The holder of this post will use LC-MS/MS / QToF and GC-QToF based secondary metabolomics methodologies (targeted and untargeted comparative metabolomics) in the fields of tobacco and other beneficial plants for discovery and profiling. Purpose Statement We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and team-oriented individual to join our research group. The individual will support the biochemistry and metabolomics workstreams to deliver strategic priorities by using state of the art facilities equipped with UPLC DAD QTOF MS, UPLC MS/MS and GC QTOF. The position requires adaptability, creativity and team work to support company goals. Key Accountabilities * Support workstreams for targeted and untargeted analytics for key compounds of interest. * Perform rapid target screening. * Use metabolic profiling to create fundamental models from 1st principles to support the programs. * Implement the principles of 'Best Practice' and ensuring technical teams are using defined processes. Knowledge, Skills and Experience * High competence in hands-on LC-MS and GC-MS-based targeted and untargeted metabolomics. * Proficiency in bioinformatics, databases and MS platforms, big data management. * PhD or MSc degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, food chemistry or related science area. * Knowledge in plant primary and secondary metabolism. * Relevant technical experience in a range of techniques for rapid screening. * Awareness of agronomic practices, preferably tobacco.. * Fluency in spoken and written English and excellent oral and written communication skills. * Planning and organizational skills, prioritization of multiple tasks, meeting strict deadlines. * Demonstrated project and laboratory management skills in multiple tasks. Independency, creative- and critical thinking, self-motivation and curiosity. Hand-on experience in building of metabolite databases and downstream chemical work as well as familiarity with Agilent instrument is highly favorable.
