LOCUM CONSULTANT GENERAL PAEDIATRICIAN 10 PAs South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to employ an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join a team of experienced and supportive medical professionals who promote a high quality, local service for children in South Warwickshire. Community Children's Services across Warwickshire and Acute services to the children of South Warwickshire are provided by the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, commissioned by the CCG. The Trust serves a community of approximately 280,000 in South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The Trust is an associate teaching hospital of the Warwick Medical School and Buckingham. There are good working links for all specialist services at tertiary units in Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford. This post is to strengthen senior presence during times of emergency pressures and to improve the breadth of outpatient clinics. The Paediatric Department is within the Women's and Children's Division. The Acute services are located at the Warwick Hospital site. The hospital services at Warwick Hospital have seen significant developments in the last five years. The Paediatric Unit provides 18 in patient paediatric beds, (7 cubicles and 1 High Dependency Bed) and an adjacent outpatient area for children. We also have a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 11 funded cots within the maternity department. A Midwifery Led Unit which opened 2nd July 2018 and there are plans afoot for improvement of the SCBU facilities, as well as development of a Paediatric Assessment Unit. The successful candidate will have acute general paediatric and neonatal responsibilities, and will also see child protection referrals on call. He/she will share an on call commitment for general paediatrics and neonates (stabilisation and transfer) doing a 1:9 on call rota including a consultant of the week model working into the evening. There is active undergraduate teaching, with 8 medical students being attached to the Paediatric Unit at any one time. These are mature students from Warwick & Buckingham Medical School. The Medical School has been supported by significant capital investment on the Warwick Hospital site, including a new education building, which houses the medical library facility. The appointee will participate in the teaching of medical students from the Warwick and Buckingham Medical School. The University of Warwick has a number of international research groups and are very keen to foster clinical research. Warwick is a historic market town with a magnificent medieval castle. South Warwickshire has exceptionally beautiful countryside. The towns of Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon are within the catchment area. There is a full range of housing available within easy reach of the hospital. The area has a good choice of state and independent schools. There are excellent road links to main cities, Warwick being close to junction 15 on the M40 motorway, with London 70 miles away. Warwick and Leamington Spa are on the Chiltern rail link to London Marylebone and the Virgin network. The Warwickshire Nuffield Hospital (private) is situated in Leamington Spa, approximately four miles from Warwick Hospital. Equitable arrangements exist in relation to private practice. Full registration with the GMC is essential, MRCPCH (or equivalent) is essential, and you must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining CCST at the time of the interview.
