We have ambitious growth targets and we need you to help us achieve these. This is a great opportunity to create and shape a new Small Business team for Travelers. As an Associate Underwriter in our Small Business Unit you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business that is consistent the team's underwriting strategies. You will be accountable for selling and marketing all Small Business products as well as operating in a high volume environment. The following key activities form a core part of your role; Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities + UNDERWRITING QUALITY/PROFITIBILITY. + Follow Best Practices, including Underwriting processes and Workflow management. + Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through application of the appropriate level of underwriting analysis to accept, decline, modify, rate and quote these accounts. + Responsible for ensuring compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements. Works collaboratively within Small Business Unit providing support when required. + Take corrective action and/or collaborate with the Senior/Small Business Underwriter based on identified risk characteristics. + SALES. + Prequalify accounts to identify customer needs and take appropriate action. + Function as point of sale for proposal delivery and negotiation. + Positively communicating to brokers on the phone, email or other communication channels whilst administrating business. + Use commercial awareness to negotiate premium and terms on small business products to deliver sustainable profit. + E-TRADE + Utilise various technologies to quote/bind. + NEW BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. + Operates efficiently in line with the defined operational service level agreements. + Where appropriate identify opportunities to write additional lines of business using knowledge of products, risk characteristics and appetite. + Maintain and enhance understanding of Travelers products, services and solutions and initiate discussions with other business areas as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications + Previous experience of underwriting in UK Commercial insurance. Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge + Working knowledge of the small business insurance marketplace. + Demonstrates an ability and desire to learn about the enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers. + Working knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in + day-to-day work activities. + Previous experience of talking to brokers or customers on the phone. + Prior experience of adherence to company SLAs, values, technical standards and controls. Licensing or Certificates + Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification preferred Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies + Basic Product/Technical proficiency commensurate to incumbent's underwriting authority. + Demonstrates basic ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction. + Use/knowledge of eTrade platforms such as Acturis/Open GI/SSP etc. Environmental / Work Schedules / Other Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Travelers is an equal opportunity employer.
